Cycling Champion is an arcade cycling game with a tactical and accessible approach. The idea is simple: to experience the excitement of a cycling race without having to spend hours learning complex systems. Each stage becomes a sequence of quick decisions, where choosing the right moment to attack, recover energy, or save your strength can make the difference between winning the stage or running out of legs before the finish line.
The main mechanic of Cycling Champion revolves around a card system. During the race, the player has a hand of four cards representing different rider actions.
Each section of the stage forces you to decide what to do: attack, pull the group, recover energy... It is not just about always choosing the strongest card, because every move has consequences. Some cards allow you to move faster, but consume more energy. Others are more conservative and help you recover strength for the key moments of the race.
Luck will also play a role, since the cards you want will not always be available. You will have one hand discard available in each race.
One of the key elements of the game is energy management. In cycling, the winner is not always the rider who attacks first, but the one who knows how to choose the right moment.
In Cycling Champion, each card has an impact on the rider’s energy. Aggressive actions consume more, while defensive or recovery cards allow you to catch your breath.
This gives each stage a strategic layer. You can try to gain time from far out with an attack, save yourself for the final sprint, or play more conservatively to avoid blowing up before the finish line.
The fun lies in the fact that there is no single correct way to play. Each race, each hand of cards, and each stage profile can lead you to different decisions.
Cycling Champion is designed to offer fast-paced sessions. Stages are divided into sections, and in each one the player has to make a decision. There are two types of stages: short stages, with ten sections, and long stages, such as classics or the World Championship, with twenty. The idea is for short stages to last around three minutes — four at most — and for long ones to last six or seven. Sometimes that feels like too much to me, and I think about shortening them, probably because of the whirlwind of instant audiovisual content we are exposed to every time we pick up our phones.
This allows the game to maintain a fast rhythm without losing the tactical feeling of cycling. It is not a heavy simulator, but an arcade experience where decisions matter, always in a clear and direct way.
The game includes a Season Mode, where the player progresses through different competitions inspired by the cycling calendar: stage races, classics, and major tours.
Throughout the season, you will have to compete, complete objectives, and improve your rider’s performance. It is not only about winning a stage. Sometimes the goal may be to finish among the best, score mountain points, or achieve a strong position in the general classification.
In addition to Season Mode, Cycling Champion includes independent challenges based on historic races. These challenges are designed to offer specific, quick, and varied races, ideal for players who want to enjoy a short session or face particular scenarios.
One of the main ideas behind Cycling Champion is that it should be easy to start playing. The basic rules are quick to understand: you choose a card, see how it affects your speed and energy, and try to reach the finish line in the best possible position.
But as you keep playing, you begin to see more strategic layers.
When to attack.
When to save energy.
When to accept losing positions.
When to save your sprint.
When to recover, even if it seems risky.
That mix of simplicity and decision-making is the heart of the game.
Cycling Champion will launch in Early Access because the game already has a playable foundation, but still has plenty of room to grow.
The goal of Early Access is to keep expanding and polishing the experience with new ideas, gameplay improvements, and community feedback. The core of the game is already defined: fast races, cards, energy, Season Mode, and challenges. But the future can bring many more possibilities.
Planned improvements include new content, balance adjustments, visual improvements, new modes, an editor, more variety in stage environments, and more.
Early Access will also make it possible to listen to players: which cards work best, which challenges are the most fun, which parts need more clarity, and what new ideas could fit the spirit of the game.
Cycling is full of epic moments: long-range attacks, impossible comebacks, unexpected bonks, tight sprints, and stages where everything changes in the final kilometers.
Cycling Champion aims to capture that excitement in a direct, tactical, and easy-to-play format.
The future of the game is about growing little by little, adding more content, improving the presentation, and making every race more interesting. The foundation is already there: cards, energy, strategy, and a passion for cycling.
