Steam Deck Compatibility

Overflow Protocol was designed primarily around mouse controls, but I’ve made sure it works well on Steam Deck and created an official Steam Input layout for it.

  • Right trackpad <-> Mouse Movement => Move the cursor

  • L1, L2, R1, R2 or Left trackpad touch <-> Left mouse button => Generate, merge and interact with the UI

  • D-pad / Left stick up or down <-> Up / Down arrow keys => Scroll through the shop

  • D-pad / Left stick left or right <-> Left / Right arrow keys => Navigate between shop tabs

  • A or X <-> Enter => Continue dialogue and confirm UI actions

  • B, Y or special menu buttons <-> Esc => Open the settings panel

At the moment, the D-pad and Left joystick are intended for quickly checking what’s available in the shop. You’ll still need to use the trackpad cursor to purchase items.

I recommend playing with the “Hold to Auto-Click” accessibility setting enabled.

During my own testing, I’ve found it comfortable to play using the right trackpad as a mouse and L2 or left trackpad touch for clicking. However, I’d love to hear how it feels to other Steam Deck players.

Thanks!
