Message from the developers

As we approach Steam Next Fest and our Early Access launch, we've been looking into improving replayability even more, making each mission unique with its own twists and turns. Divergence was already great at that, but now with the Crossroad, players will be able to choose their path and encounter even more unique outcomes. Another key aspect that was missing was allowing players to get a sense of the difficulty and the meta. Previously, there was no way for players to easily compare themselves to others and correctly evaluate their performance against a given difficulty. Now that should be possible with the newly added Leaderboard. We also added a feature that lets you inspect leaderboard entries to see their squad composition and gear. It should help newer players learn synergies and good team compositions. Following these improvements, we are confident in the strength and stability of our core gameplay systems. Going forward we'll mostly be focusing on adding new content, polishing the game, and balancing.

Demo Patch #2

Crossroad

  • 5 times per mission, you'll arrive at a special location with a crossroad.
  • Crossroad allows you to pick a special destination that triggers an event.
  • Some events give an instant reward while others change the next level.
  • Each event has a custom visual and fantasy themed around the historical period you're in.
  • You're guaranteed to encounter at least 2 accessory events during a mission.
  • Includes a tie-breaker mechanism: if players vote for different destinations, the choice is resolved with a random roll.
  • Crossroad divergence is turned off for now, but will be added in the future.
  • We might tweak the amount and rules guiding what you encounter. Let us know what you think!

Leaderboard

  • Players can now compete on a leaderboard to see who can get the best score.
  • Score is equal to the number of monsters defeated during the invasion, which begins after the final combat.
  • Invasion has been reworked into multiple levels instead of one endless fight.
  • Enemies and reinforcements always come from the right in the invasion levels.
  • After the final combat, you can no longer shop, and gadgets from your nuclear machine are disabled.
  • In the HQ, a leaderboard panel is visible at the top left showing the best score for each category (1-2-3 players).
  • Each entry in the leaderboard can be inspected to see the squad setup of the players at the end of the game.
  • You can filter out public entries and only see the score of your friends and yourself.

These are fake entries to showcase the feature.

Butterfly Effects

  • General butterfly effect passives have been removed.
  • Instead, butterfly effects will give random accessories to enemies each combat.
  • Enemy accessories start at Lvl.4 and can even upgrade to Lvl.5.
  • Butterfly effects are hard capped at 3 per mission.

Achievements & Progression

  • Upgrades are now entirely personal and not shared with other players.
  • Some upgrades have been removed and new ones have been added.
  • Added achievements which unlock new content and some bonuses.
  • Bonuses unlocked through achievements need to be unlocked by all players present in the task force to be active.

Agent Trait

  • Added minor agent traits obtainable during a mission.
  • Improved the Agent Trait list displayed at the bottom left of the HUD.
  • Added a crossroad event that asks players to choose their minor trait from a selection.

General Improvements

  • Added a button to select a random agent
  • Added a mission history allowing you to inspect previous runs.
  • Updated the area of effect display.
  • Added a bunch of new sound effects.
  • Added a bunch of new visual effects on some gear.
  • Nuclear now starts at 0. The maximum now starts at 2 and will never increase. You get 1 nuclear per combat (meaning 1 new gadget every 2 combats).
  • Reworked how combat start effects resolve for better predictability and less chaotic outcomes.
  • The list of unlocked gadgets is now shown in a new tab in the Codex.
  • Moved UI buttons related to meta progression and profile into a panel at the bottom of the screen (also available in the escape menu while in a mission).
  • Reworked Mad Agent Trait. Now allows you to stack speed each time you suffer enough damage.
  • Reworked Flamethrower. Now only applies burning on attack and doesn't have any gear abilities.
  • Backpack now allows you to keep items outside your bag.
  • Accessories now start at Lvl.3.
  • Non-recurring gold rewards from combat are now shown as in-world loot.
  • Added Steam/Discord in-game status (Rich Presence).
  • Improved player color selection in the HQ.

Balance Changes

  • Capped some effects that could stack infinitely.
  • Nerfed Spear by removing its Gear Ability.
  • Buffed Tommy Gun to account for the fact that most bullets miss.
  • Adjusted the difficulty of Italy (it was too easy compared to Egypt & New York).
  • Adjusted difficulty based on the number of players (Solo vs 2 or 3 players).
  • Adjusted Fortune in certain levels.
  • Adjusted incorrect health scaling for Deployable Wall.
  • Crozier Staff speed no longer scales with mastery.
  • And other little changes we might have forgotten.
