Hello Deadsiders!

On May 7th at 11AM CEST / 4AM CDT we will release update 1.9.1!

At the same time, we also plan to open 4 more PvE servers in Europe to reduce queue times.

This balance patch is based directly on feedback from our community. We have been carefully listening to the concerns shared by our players, and in this update we hope to address some of them.

Our goal is to find the right balance between survival challenge and gameplay comfort. Some of the changes in this update may not look radical, but this is an important step toward finding that “golden middle ground” where the game remains immersive and challenging while also being enjoyable and less frustrating to play.

Getting into the changes, first lets cover food and water. We have seen feedback from players saying they feel like they are forced to gather food and water too often during gameplay, restricting what they can do. So we have made multiple changes to keep hunting rewarding while increasing the amount of time your character is satiated.

Food and water drain has been reduced by 10% to 33%, depending on the player's actions. The only thing that hasn't changed is water loss while sprinting. The character now has 25 minimal food and water on a respawn. The amount of food from forageables has been increased slightly as well to keep you alive early game. Importantly though, cooked meat now increases the maximum amount of food and water. +25 for fish, +35 for duck, and +30 for deer. Duck meat also increases your max HP slightly (+4), with deer giving a better bonus of (+6). The effects stack, so you can increase your satiety value up to 200.

These changes mean that you won’t be hungry as often if you invest the time into gathering good meat. This keeps the hunting rewarding, while restricting you as a player less during normal gameplay. As an added bonus, mission rewards now have a chance to drop canned food as well.

Another area of improvement in this update is a reduction to weapon maintenance and crafting costs. Generally reduced by ~10%, though the specific values can be found in the patch notes down below. Your supply of machine oil and other repair items will now take you further, allowing for more crafting and upgrades.

Loot spawning is being adjusted as well, with base materials like nails, planks, and rope spawning in larger quantities. Getting a basic base started will now take less looting time to keep progression smooth.

Lastly, the rate that vehicles slow down from damage has been reduced. Now if your vehicle is above 50% durability, you will be able to travel at full speed. This allows you to operate a vehicle for longer without stopping for repair, rewarding those who invest the time maintaining their vehicles.

Those are most of the big changes included in this update, check out the patch notes below for all the details. We are still listening to feedback and will continue to make changes, so please let us know what you think!
