Curve Fever Pro is finally coming to Steam!
Since this is the first post, let's start with an introduction. About 10 years ago, in 2016, I joined the company behind Curve Fever. Back then, we were still working on Curve Fever 2. Later, we worked on the third version, and then we started on the Pro version and released it in 2018. Unfortunately, the company behind the game eventually went bankrupt, and it was not clear what would happen to the game. In November 2022, I took over Curve Fever Pro and started running it on my own. Since then, I've been maintaining and developing the game as a solo developer. There have been dozens of fairly big updates over the past few years, both to the game itself and to a lot of the outdated systems behind it.
Curve Fever had always been a browser game, and accessibility was always on our minds. Because of that, bringing the game to Steam wasn't really something we were considering. But later, in 2019, we decided to change direction and start planning for a Steam launch. Unfortunately, there wasn't enough time to get the game ready for Steam back then.
When I took over, it was never the plan to release on Steam since it was just a side project of mine. Since then, my love for the game has grown again, and earlier this year I changed my mind and started working towards a Steam release again. And now it's finally ready to release!
It has been quite an interesting journey to get here. The game is 8 years old, and there was very little maintenance for several years, so there was a lot of work to do. Over the past few months, I have implemented all the Steam services, such as authentication, payments, friends, rich presence, input, and quite a lot of smaller systems.
Then there were four more large updates to improve the experience on Steam. The first was adding controller support so that all the menus and the game itself can be controlled with a controller. I also added localization so that the game can be played in different languages and recently I added local multiplayer so that you can play with friends on the couch or on one keyboard. And last but not least, achievements were added.
For the upcoming period, I will be monitoring everything, scaling up the servers if needed, fixing critical bugs if they are reported, and continuing to improve the game.
If you haven't wishlisted Curve Fever Pro yet, please do. It helps a lot around launch.
Come join us on September 22nd at 4:00 PM CEST.
And if you enjoy the game after launch, leaving a Steam review would be very much appreciated. Reviews make a real difference for a small game like this.
Thanks to everyone who has kept playing Curve Fever Pro over the years, reported bugs, given feedback, invited friends, or just kept the servers busy.
See you on September 22nd.
Jos
