We talked about the interior in an earlier devlog so let’s talk about the exterior. When designing the exterior and environment of Road Diner, we wanted the building to feel like a real roadside stop - something you could spot from far away while driving through the desert.
The diner is surrounded by the visual language of Route 66 and mid-century America: oversized signs, gas stations, motels, empty roads and all those strange roadside structures that were made to catch your eye.

We also wanted the environment to carry the same retro-futuristic optimism as the diner itself. Curved shapes, bright colors and bold silhouettes make the world feel like someone's idea of the future from the 1950s.

But outside, things are a little less polished (intentionally).
Dust, rust, faded paint and worn-out props slowly take over the landscape. The contrast between colorful retro designs and the harsh desert environment helps the place feel lived-in rather than like a perfectly preserved museum piece.

The goal is to make the area around the diner feel just as recognizable as the building itself.
A place you notice from the highway.
A place that makes you want to stop.
And maybe stay just a little longer.
