Update 2.43.0: Terrain Deformation Preview

Granvir · published 7 Aug 2026, 20:44 UTC · build 24510534

This week's update introduces terrain deformation to the Zero Front campaign through new custom difficulty settings. Terrain deformation generates a random height map for each mission. A complementary map size setting has also been added so the deformation has more space to generate fun features to play around.

The next few updates will focus on adding terrain deformation support to all campaigns. Once all campaigns fully support terrain deformation, it will become the default setting along with disabled fog of war.

The core purpose of the fog of war was to limit player sight lines and create a plausible reason for enemies on the map to not immediately see the player but now terrain deformation achieves the same goal far more elegantly. Fog of war will remain in the game as a custom difficulty setting for those who prefer to play with it enabled.

The removal of fog of war will also come with some adjustments to the visibility range stat and weapon accuracy mechanics. While the terrain deformation does block sight lines it also creates areas with far greater visibility too many weapons are unable to capitalize on.

Once fog of war is disabled by default, a large portion of ranged weapon inaccuracy will be reworked to be created by your Granvir's targeting systems and movement. Visibility Range will be reworked to Targeting Range and control the amount targeting distance contributes to targeting accuracy. Overall, I am looking to keep the current accuracy of a running unspecialized Granvir and improve the accuracy of a stationary or specialized Granvir.
