Season 6 Extended Plus Double XP Event

Greetings Abalon fans!

Our next big feature drop still needs some more time in development, so I've decided to extend Season 6 and launch another Double XP event so you have some more time to get your heroes leveled up. From now until August 18th, earn double XP in Abalon!

Season 7 Update - Async Multiplayer is Coming Next!

Season 7 will officially kick off on September 14th to coincide with Steam's Party Based RPG Fest.

Our major feature drop will include a variety of asynchronous multiplayer modes. For those who aren't familiar, asynchronous multiplayer is the ability to play many games at once without the need for a concurrent online connection. When your opponent finishes their turn, you'll receive a notification letting you know it's your turn. Battles can thus span over several days, allowing you to take as much time as you need to devise the perfect strategy!

Here's a sneak preview for how this new feature is shaping up:

From the new "Abalon Arena" themed multiplayer hub, you can view all your games in progress and take your turns.

You can also view all of your completed games to see your wins and losses and replay game endings. Eventually I plan to extend that into a full fledged replay support so you can study moves and strategies.

Here's a look at the new game flow. I'm presently working on ranked matchmaking system so that you can quickly find opponents of similar skill and climb the leaderboard.

Custom games are already working on our dev server. Here's the really cool thing: Abalon will also support real-time multiplayer as well as seamless transitioning from async to realtime multiplayer. The only other game I have ever known to do this was Hero Mages (my first game) and I'm very excited to bring this capability to Abalon.

The game lobby will let you customize a number of game options so you can play 1v1, 2v2, FFA and cooperative vs bots. You'll also notice the quick-access "Join Code" in the upper right that you can click to grab and share with friends. Abalon's multiplayer will be fully cross-platform across Steam for Abalon/Abalon Arena and on mobile.

I hope you're as excited as we are for this next step in the Abalon journey! Of course the next update will also include many more player requested fixes and QoL updates as well :)

Caves DLC

I've also been concurrently developing our next DLC as well, the Caves expansion, that will bring a new biome and new bosses to Abalon. This is in full art production now and will likely release some time mid-season 7 later in early fall.

Official Abalon Wiki

Reminder that Abalon now has an official, completely ad-free Wiki hosted directly on our website at: https://d20studios.com/wiki/. We carefully moderate this for accuracy and to prevent bot spamming, but absolutely welcome player input to contribute strategy guides and such. To request access, send Wesley a ping on our official Discord.

Showing Your Support

Many of our players have asked me for a way to help support the continued development of Abalon, so I setup a "Buy Me a Coffee" page where you can make one-time or recurring contributions.

But honestly, the best thing you can do to help support the continuing development and growth of the game is to simply write the game a review :)

Cheers!

~Ross
