Patch 0.4.0 - "Family Matters"

Please keep in mind this is a transitionary patch. Bugs expected, and balance is wack, maybe a bit more difficult than before. Got lot of work to do, please bear with us.

Highlights

New Basic dice!

Simplified Hero dice!

Shop and power dice rework, combat logs, and more! And the game runs better too!

What an update!1!!1!

It's all in the family

We reworked the hero dice and classified all dice into families to create stronger identities and synergies.

When you pick a dicebox for a run, you'll receive a simpler starter set of dice to build your team around.

These starters are just a suggestion; go wild and experiment, we don't know what you'll find.

We really don't.

No spoilers, but we think you'll like this change once you hit the upgrades!Yes, we nerfed the priest. Good riddance (#Rev)Oh, power dice are consumables now. You must really consider when to use them!

New Basic Dice

We added 20 new basic dice to the game (thank you Rev!).

They are designed to be simple to understand for new players. They also synergize with the hero dice, so veteran players can build around them.

  • Squire: a Bruiser that supports Knight and Berserker teams.

  • Scout: a Pathfinder that snipes the highest-power enemy when paired with Ranger or Druid.

  • Scoundrel: an Outcast that launches itself into the highest-power enemy for a risky burst of damage.

  • Apprentice: an Arcanist paired with Mages and Warlocks through Ice Armor and unstable magic.

  • Acolyte: a Radiant that sacrifices itself for allies.

  • Rat: a fast Beastkin; all about poison pressure if with Outcast units.

  • Elemental: an Arcanist that converts magic damage into Ice Armor.

  • Alchemist: an Arcanist turning Ice Armor into damage.

  • Golem: an Arcanist of great starting Power, but it can't obtain more. Fancies Ice Armor.

  • Blacksmith: a Bruiser hammering Power for its weakest allies.

  • Raider: just roll it with a lot of Bruisers. See what happens. Bruiser.

  • Falconer: falcon summoner when rolled with other Pathfinders. Pathfinder.

  • Jester: you get Trample Bruisers, the enemies get mad. Outcast.

  • Flagellant: this guy's gonna suffer for good when he's with a Radiant. Radiant.

  • Ironclad: buff boy helps others. Nuff said. Radiant.

  • Pixie: looks small, but a force multiplier. Radiant.

  • Direwolf: leader of the wolves pack when with Pathfinders. Beastkin.

  • Duskwing: you'll want a bloodbath with this one. Beastkin.

  • Mandrake: a Beastkin that heals your Hero when paired with Pathfinder or Radiant units.

  • Spider: of course it applies Poison if rolled with Beastkins or Outcasts. Beastkin.

There's more coming and there's also a bigger change that'll affect these in the future and make them way cooler!

Combat Readability

  • You asked to know what happens in combat, and we listened! We've added a combat log showing what happens during the fight. It's still very much a work in progress, so please give us feedback about it. Gooby, our Chief Clarity Officer, will make your wildest dreams come true. It is disabled by default, but you can enable it in the options menu.

  • New animated gear and phase visuals support the combat UI.

Simplified Dice

No more scanning for pip values in the tooltip to know which ability each pip-pair activates. We simplified them into:

  • Passive: innate effects. For example, Hellfire is now a passive that triggers on Warlock death.

  • Ability: effect associated with a pip-pair.

  • Critical Roll: enhanced effect for (usually) the highest pip of the die.

  • We rewrote many dice descriptions to match.

Please let us know what you think.

Graphics And Performance Options

  • Quality tiers now have a greater impact on performance and visuals. Medium is balanced for great looking visuals, don't feel like you're missing out if you don't use High.

  • Steam Deck graphics target 60FPS+ at ~8 Watts.

  • Loading times should be greatly improved.

Misc fixes

  • Dice now visually settle with the resolved face aligned upward after rolling.

  • Some very WIP cups are now in the 3D scene. That's the vision! Much more to come here.

  • You can pause the game with Spacebar.

  • Tooltips for new machine-profiles (not save profiles) are now visible on hover by default.
