Hey Builders,

We have just released the Power Tools & Packed Lunches update for Dumb Ways to Build on Steam! Check out the update trailer below:

As revealed in our blog earlier this week, Update v2.0 adds a bunch of content, including new tools and delicious items to spice up gameplay. Plus, enjoy a range of bug fixes and quality of life improvements, including the Expanded Ping System and dynamic player expressions. Check out the full Update Notes below!

On top of this update, the development team has been hard at work creating even more content (including a brand-new level), and we can’t wait to share more news on that soon. Until then, jump into the free update now.

Happy building!

Update v2.0

Steam

  • Build ID:  25570777

Feature Updates

  • Blow away items (and your friends) with the Blow-Vac

    • Creates a wind-zone that pushes back items and players. The alt mode can suck in and store up to three objects, building materials, and even players to then launch them out later.

  • Grab your Caulk Launcher and get to work

    • Creates expanding foam blobs that can be used as temporary platforms once hardened or to pin down materials and items.

  • Reach new heights with the Pocket Spring Loaded Platform

    • Deploys a spring loaded platform that can launch players and objects across obstacles.

  • Create sweet music with the Drumsticks

    • Make different sounds and melodies based upon what you hit, including your teammates.

  • Even the smallest of Beans can help with Shonky's Shrinky Drinky

    • Shrinks the player down to a small size for a set amount of time, allowing them to be thrown further by others.

  • Harden up and have a Cup of Concrete

    • Coats the user in hardened concrete which gives immunity to all damage and knockback effects, and allows building objects to be unpinned by touching them.

  • Unleash your hidden powers with the Telekinesis Tonic

    • Allows the user to pick up and rotate objects and other players from a greater distance.

  • Get swole with the Dumbbell Protein Shake

    • Increases the user’s size and throw strength.

  • The Double Shot Espresso will give you an instant pick-me-up

    • Increases movement speed and causes the user’s arms to shake randomly.

  • Crazy for Coconuts

    • The coconuts, when broken, can be eaten to restore health.

Quality of Life Improvements

  • Added additional graffiti to ‘Hotel Hapless’ in normal difficulty, highlighting game mechanics such as rotating held objects, and increasing or decreasing the distance of held objects.

  • Added a Lightning Rod spawner to ‘Crane Climb’, which can spawn infinite Lightning Rods.

  • Added a selfie functionality to the Instant Camera.

  • Added visual improvements for flares, where the smoke changes colour based on the player who activates them.

  • Added the functionality for players to feed food items to other players.

  • Added improvements to character expressions, where player mouth movements now dynamically sync and mimic phonetic mouth positions when speaking. Characters now also blink every few seconds, and pull unique facial expressions when impacted by status effects.

  • Added an Expanded Ping System, giving players six ping options to better communicate.

  • Added additional first person visual and audio feedback to highlight when players are low health.

  • Added additional visual feedback to highlight when players restore their health.

  • Added additional UI in the Lobby to highlight when players unlock new content such as Master Builder mode and Levels.

  • Added the ability for players to emote while inside the customization menu.

  • Changed brown and gold Item Crate visuals with Toolboxes that can also be used as building materials.

  • Improved existing consumables visual detail, audio feedback, and HUD display.

  • Improved the effect of existing consumables.

  • Improved visuals of the Nail Gun reticule, where it now changes shape to indicate whether the nail will pin an object or not.

  • Improved building material colliders to address objects flying when a material is moved from the bottom of a pile.

  • Players no longer drop their held items when they die. If revived by another player, items are kept. If revived at a Port-a-loo, players will drop their items where they died.

  • Improved the collider on the plug in ‘Drain Strain’.

  • Removed the following consumables: Baked Beans, Cheese, Clod Cola, Lax Lemonade, Putz Protein, and Battery Acid.

    • Developer note: Items have been removed due to redundancy or where new consumables replace their functionality.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where solo players could get softlocked in ‘Crane Climb’ Master Builder in the balloon popping section.

  • Fixed issues where objects being held could clip into the world.

  • Fixed an issue where players could get stuck floating mid-air after exiting a lobby while holding a buildable object and then rejoining the lobby.

  • Fixed an issue where UI would render through the treadmill treads.

  • Fixed multiple collision and visual misalignment issues across all levels.

  • Fixed a visual issue with the ‘Classic Dance' emote when transitioning into a different emote.

  • Fixed issue where only the host player would take fall damage when being hit off a ledge by a sledgehammer.

  • Fixed an issue where players being stunned or revived would teleport.

  • Fixed an issue where players who died in the lobby and then spectacted using the walkie talkie could see their characters’ arms when looking in the mirror.

  • Fixed an issue where the incorrect audio SFX played when using the Plunger.

  • Fixed an issue where the white highlight to showcase an object can be nailed would fail to appear.

  • Fixed an issue where repeatedly using the ‘Point and Laugh’ Emote would change the camera angle and point of view.

  • Fixed an issue in ‘Crane Climb’ Master Builder where some conveyor belts were not pushing players off platforms.

  • Fixed an issue where players could not view Certifications on the end of round screen when using a controller.

  • Fixed an issue where the UI prompt to ‘Freeze’ wasn’t appearing while holding certain building objects in solo mode.

  • Fixed an issue where the ropes on cranes in ‘Crane Climb’ would not lengthen or shorten based on the height of the platform.

  • Fixed an issue where the level complete audio continues to play in the lobby if the player spams the A or X button on a controller when completing a level.

  • Fixed an issue where a player’s arms could get stuck in the free rotate position if another player used a Plunger on an object they were holding.

  • Fixed an issue where players could nail a Piranha in place if they shot at a building object between them and the piranha.

  • Fixed an issue where footballs did not pop when shot at with the Nail Gun.

  • Fixed an issue where players in solo mode could not grab objects that were frozen in place.

  • Fixed an issue where players could not kill Piranhas or Sewer Slimes when the host disconnects from the lobby.
