Hello fellow Stickman!
I'm super excited to finally share everything that is coming to The Stickman in 1.0! This is going to be a lot of content, so buckle up.
It's finally time! I'm super excited to finally share the release date, and I'm stoked for you all to try out what I've been working on these past couple of months.
The prize pool starts at $100 for each, but this can be increased. For every 10 players that complete every short and compete in the Shorts Speedrun Competition, the prize pool will go up by $25! (Max $250). This is only counted during the first 14 days after 1.0 is released.
I have 3 competitions planned after release.
Shorts Speedrun Competition: The first competition will be on all the new short levels. There will be 8 levels total where you have to get the best cumulative time
Bungul Speedrun Competition: The second competition is on Bungul (World 4), where you'll have to get the best cumulative time in all 5 levels
Level Editor Competition: The third competition is a Level Editor Competition. There will be more details when this is closer to starting, but there will be a few requirements your level has to meet
Bonus Event: Depending on how the other competitions go, I might have another bonus event which will probably be voted on by the community.
Bungul is the last world in the campaign, introducing 4 new weapons and more complex movement and combat. These levels are a step up in difficulty, just like Terkus
Three of the levels are in the jungle where you have to use moving platforms and connect or destroy the pipes! I really enjoy this level in particular because I think it's brutally difficult but perfectly fair
The other two levels are in a much brighter environment, focusing on the Glider and combat.
Shorts are 8 new levels, each based on a different environment (2 per world). Shorts take roughly 30 seconds to complete and are in the format of the gauntlet, where there are static enemies that you have to eliminate, or you get a time penalty.
There are 5 new PvP Modes/Maps being added.
Bounty: In Bounty, one player is assigned the bounty each time. Defend your teammate while trying to eliminate the opponent
Tag: Given a boxing glove, gain points by tagging the opposing team
H.O.R.S.I.E Dunes: Team Deathmatch on a H.O.R.S.I.E
Volleyball: Given a boxing glove, keep the Volleyball from touching your floor. Score by having the volleyball touch the opposing team's floor
Avalanche: One of my favorite new modes, gain points by reaching the top of the avalanche!
The Leaderboard UI has been changed to be easier to navigate and includes new leaderboards.
Accumulative Leaderboards: Accumulative Leaderboards have been added to every world. These will be automatically updated on first launch of 1.0
Medals: The medal the player received on that level is now displayed
Numbered Levels: Something else I did was number every level. This should make it much easier to find what level you're looking for, rather than relying on a silly name
World Record banners have been added to every level and display the player who holds the world record!
The customization background has been completely redone, and I've added new Hats and Tombstones.
Along with this, I repurposed Pictures. Pictures now get displayed instead of your Steam profile picture. They'll get shown in menus, scoreboards, and the world record banners. (You'll still be able to place it around the world as well)
The Golden Stickman is a brand new prestigious award given to those who get author time on all 20 campaign levels.
A highly requested feature is the ability to make your own reticle. You can even share them with others.
This is everything I changed or edited related to gameplay:
You are now given your grenade and special when you start the level
You can now spectate Ghosts
Ghosts now use the Players Skin instead of just being blue
You can now change the Ghost between personal best, author, and leaderboard from inside of time attack via the pause menu
02. The Three-Way ending was redone to be smoother
This will not affect leaderboard times since the new version is quicker, but the ghosts will be inaccurate if you have already done this level
Added more direction to 12. The Big Climb so it's clearer about where you need to go
New Grapple Visuals and proper edge detection for smoother grapples
Author medals are now the exact author time. Previously, I added 10-15 seconds for a little forgiveness
You might notice your medals on levels change, and you might lose access to hard levels if you don't have gold with the new times. Your progress will be saved, but you'll have to get gold in all levels again before you can play it again.
Removed armor damage being a separate damage number
Flashbang now scales the daze effect depending on how close to the grenade you are. Metallic enemies can't be dazed
In Time Trials and race mode, players no longer collide into each other
The enemy that kills you is now highlighted while you're in spectate
Enemies now spawn more uniformly and less randomized
Enemies no longer clump up on the edges and corners of surfaces
I've also added a bunch of extra stuff that was requested, or I thought was a positive change.
Added option to visualize checkpoint triggers
Added option to visualize the Finish Zone trigger
Added ability to hide ghost
Adjusted look of Neila
Main Menu music has been changed to level music instead of the lo-fi
Grenades and projectiles now deal damage with client-side detection instead of server-side
Fixed various Level Editor bugs
Level Editor has been updated with Terkus and Bungul assets
The fully detailed patch notes will be released with 1.0 on September 21st. I've just released an update which includes all Quality of Life additions and bug fixes so far. Bungul, Shorts, and the PvP modes will be released on September 21st. And if you find any bugs, please report them in the Discord!
It's been five years now leading up to this so I'm super excited to finally have The Stickman going into 1.0. See you on September 21st
