From playing the classics to sharing the shelf

Chrono Trigger, aka the GOAT. Final Fantasy IV, VI, VII, VIII, and IX. Breath of Fire IV. These are games I grew up playing, and a big part of why I wanted to make an RPG myself.

After over 7 years of solo development, Critical Chaos is now on those same Steam shelves and participating in Party-Based RPG Fest. That still feels pretty damn surreal.

Just days after launch, I’ve got two milestones worth celebrating:

  • Top third of a 974-game comparison: Critical Chaos placed 309th in Steam’s sales-ranked All list with JRPG + Turn-Based Combat selected.

  • 55th out of 113 demos: The Critical Chaos demo landed in the top half of Steam’s Top Demos list with RPG, JRPG, Exploration, Story Rich, and Turn-Based Combat selected.

These are September 14–15 snapshots of those filtered lists. Steam’s Top Demos ordering uses all-time peak player counts.

For my first commercial game, built by a one-man studio, those are moments I’m proud of. Thank you to everyone who has played, shared the game, or given Red Canopy Games a chance. After spending so many years building this world, seeing other people explore it means a lot.

Critical Chaos is available now on Steam, with a free demo.

A family. A broken squad. A world at war.
