Lilith Rising - Season 2 · published
A quiet moment between Ren and Lula starts long before the final image. There’s an environment to set up, characters to pose, cameras to position, and lighting to get right.
Today, we’re taking you through that process—showing what our artists and director do, and where AI fits into the work. Before the shot: the character models
Ren and Lula’s model are made to perfection, with all their outfits and styles. The next six images follow one shot through production:1. Setting the scene We place the character and environment models in the scene, establishing where everything belongs.
2. Testing the overall lighting
We test how the models look under the scene’s global lighting, establishing the nighttime atmosphere.
3. Positioning cameras and character lights
We place the cameras and set up additional lighting on the characters to shape the shot.
4. Posing and framing
We adjust the characters’ poses and expressions, refining the composition to convey the moment our director wants you to experience.
5. Test renders and lighting adjustments
We render the shot, review the result, and adjust the lighting and details.
6. Finishing the image
We apply color correction and use some AI enhancement for the lighting and background. Our artists then blend, correct, and finish the image in Photoshop.
Continuity a huge part of that work, our 3D character and environment models give us a consistent foundation across camera angles and scenes. The people and places you get to know need to remain consistent throughout the game.
AI can help us explore concepts or enhance an image. Like an advanced Photoshop, it’s a tool in an artist’s hands. Our artists and director make the creative work —the composition, expressions, atmosphere, and how each shot serves the story. AI is a tool, not the brain.Want to see more of the work behind Spelltech’s scenes? 👀👉 Wishlist Spelltech on Steam
