Facility redesign completed: New systems, new mechanics + a huge map overhaul

We've been quiet while we've been heads-down on a major update. A few screenshots of the new map are scattered throughout this post. Here's what's new.

  • Game name changed from "Meltdown" to "Minutes to Meltdown" to avoid confusion with a game called Meltdown that released in May.

  • The whole facility has been rebuilt around connected pipeline systems. Each major system: cooling, compressor, radiation scrubbing and electrical now have their own clusters and are made up of multiple rooms.

  • The electrical system has been expanded into a more meaningful pipeline that includes switchboards, transformers and inverters. This gives rise to highly impactful and urgent faults that create catastrophic moments of plant wide failures.

  • Cables and pipes now carry information about which systems they belong to and what they affect, which means when something breaks, the cascade has a more meaningful geographic and mechanical logic behind it.

  • Visually, the facility has been redesigned from the ground up to feel like a real plant. Clusters of rooms are organized around the central reactor, with traversal that rewards splitting up and communicating.

We're targeting Steam Next Fest in October. A demo is also in the works so we can start getting some broader feedback. As always, there is still a lot going on behind the scenes to create what we hope to be a chaotic co-op game.

Thanks for following along.
