Video settings are rebuilt. You can now set resolution and display mode, pick your upscaler, switch on frame generation and tune the jungle separately - most of the controls that decide how the game performs were either missing, or in two cases quietly broken. Your video settings were reset once with this update. On first launch the game checks your hardware and picks settings to match it. If you had yours tuned the way you like, set them again - it only happens this time.
Resolution and display mode. There was no way to change either before.
Upscaling. DLSS on GeForce RTX cards, TSR on everything else.
DLSS quality modes, from DLAA down to Ultra Performance. It was locked on Quality.
Frame generation on 40 and 50 series cards.
Render scale for everyone, including cards with no DLSS at all.
Grass density and grass view distance as separate rows. Grass is the most expensive thing in the jungle, and now it is yours to trade.
Auto-detect on first launch, and a button to run it again any time.
The render scale slider did nothing. In every packaged build the value was saved and then thrown away by the renderer. If you dragged it and saw no change, you were not imagining it.
The game ignored Windows display scaling. It rendered at the divided desktop size - 1536x864 instead of 1920x1080 on a screen set to 125%, and worse the higher your scaling went. At 300% that is 720p on a 4K panel. Roughly one machine in seven was affected, and nobody could have reported it properly, because from the inside it only looks a little soft.
Frame generation plus V-Sync locked the frame rate to half the display refresh. V-Sync is now forced off whenever frame generation is on.
Sound and Game settings get the same treatment. Controls are the bigger job. Key bindings do not survive a restart at the moment, and the reason is that the game has run on Unreal's legacy input system since the very beginning. Patching around that would not hold, so the game is moving to Enhanced Input instead. It should be ready within two weeks.
Most of what is in this update exists because someone took the time to write down what was wrong. Thank you as well for the patience with the last update, while the new settings were still being fixed. What came back from it was genuinely valuable data - it showed me problems on machines and graphics cards I do not own and cannot test on myself. There is no way I find those sitting here alone. If you left a review about performance, this update is aimed at exactly that - and if it changes things for you, updating your review is the single most useful thing you can do for AREAZ.
