Get ready to welcome Lillian and Ruby to Overtrick! For the week of August 10, they’ll be waiting for you in the Clubhouse.
Lillian and Ruby are teacher and pupil, and bring elements of the game of Hearts into Overtrick. Like many of the characters in Overtrick, their designs are borrowed from French fashion magazines of the 1920s.
As the solo developer of Overtrick, I do all of the art for the game, even though I feel more confident on the programming side. So I’m really grateful to the unknown artists who created these illustrations and prints, and always excited to bring their characters to life.
Part of doing that is actually “animating” these characters. For Lillian and Ruby, I turned to Disney for inspiration. Lillian’s collar and long nails reminded me of Maleficent from “Sleeping Beauty,” so I leaned into that when drawing her in different poses. To contrast that, I drew Ruby’s poses from “Snow White” and “Alice in Wonderland.”
With the August 24 release date coming up rapidly, I’m mostly busy addressing bugs and quality of life issues!
Translation Issues. Fixed a bunch of issues in the German, Chinese, and Portuguese translations. Thanks to everyone who found and reported these issues!
Steam Deck/Controller Improvements. Various improvements to controller usage, especially around activating special cards.
Shop Increase Alert. Added some explanatory text whenever shop prices increase (they increase each time you win a Match).
Settings Menu Improvements. Updated the look of the settings menu and other menus.
