Hey Wanderers!

Today we are releasing our first bug fix patch for Escape the Backrooms since the May 28 PC update and launch on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. In-game, this update will appear as version 1.3.1 (3597) on all platforms. The patch addresses a number of player reports since the May 28 update and introduces more improvements.

We are working hard on addressing as many reports as possible, including multiplayer connection and voice chat bugs that you’ve been reporting (thanks so much for that!) We have some fixes in this patch, and more are planned in future updates, as the team continues to investigate and prioritise these topics. In case you missed it, we have a quick form for these two points we’d love for you to fill in, so we can get as much information as possible over to the crew.

For today’s patch, please see the full patch notes below:

Features:

  • Added a setting for inverting controller axis for X and Y.

Performance:

  • Fixed an issue that caused players to experience occasional stuttering in gameplay.

Bug Fixes:

  • Fixed an issue that caused players to lose voice comms after a random time or when transitioning between levels.

  • Fixed an issue that caused the title to not output audio when connecting a headset while the title is running.

  • Fixed an issue with input gain setting that caused volume to be louder than intended.

  • Fixed an issue with input gain setting that allowed input gain to be set to 0.

  • Fixed an issue that caused the game to get stuck in a loading screen.

  • Fixed a softlock that was caused by joining a cross-platform lobby while it is in-progress and returning to the lobby.

  • Fixed an issue that caused a crash when accepting invites on Xbox platforms.

  • Fixed an issue that caused a crash when joining a lobby immediately after it was created.

  • Fixed several causes of crashing for various other reasons.

  • Fixed an issue that caused the “Enter Save Game Name” option to be possible to interact with while the “Return to Main Menu” pop-up is active.

  • Fixed an issue with the Arcade machine which would allow players to trigger the final ending even if they had not completed all required endings.

  • Fixed some localization issues.

Escape the Backrooms is now available on Xbox Series X|S, including PC and Xbox Game Pass, and PlayStation 5. We’d love to hear all about your first escape teaming up with console buddies over on our Discord and TikTok accounts.
