After falling from a cliff and being imprisoned in the Demon Realm, Carter considered himself fortunate.
Only a handful of prisoners were allowed outside the prison to perform labor.
But there, he witnessed the true fate of the slaves.
The Maroks were implanting a grotesque fruit known as the Assen Fruit into human bodies.
At that moment, a message carved into the prison wall came back to him:
"The moment the fruit is planted, you are no longer human."
Carter tried to escape, but the fruit pierced his arm and burrowed into his body.
Before long, black horns tore through his flesh.
Then a strange voice echoed inside his mind.
"Return."
Only then did Carter understand why the demons had not bothered to chase him.

Determined to remain human, Carter found a rusted axe beside the corpse of a dead demon.
Without hesitation, he severed the arm infected by the fruit.
But the voice did not stop.
Part of the fruit had already spread throughout his body.
To destroy it, Carter hacked into his own flesh and bones with the axe.
He had no idea how much time had passed.
When he finally awoke, he was lying in the wasteland without arms or legs.

The voice was gone.
