Long time no see.
It has been YEARS since I last took a look at the demo, as I have been busy with Chapter I. But I figured, since Early Access is getting closer and closer, this would be a good time to build a new demo for you. And here it is!
If you played the old demo, you’ll still recognise the story once you get further in. The story hasn't changed much, but new there is a new addition: a brand-new prologue.
Previously, the game more or less greeted you by throwing a pile of controls and game mechanics at your face and hoping you’d figure it all out. Remember this gem?
The new prologue takes a gentler approach. It gives you some easier puzzles to start with and lets you discover the controls and mechanics naturally, by actually playing the game.
And there’s quite a bit more to explore there, too: three new scenes have been added to the beginning of the game. Like this one here.
I did trim back how far you can progress into the story in the demo, but that doesn’t necessarily mean there’s less to see. There’s simply more to explore in the new bits.
There’s also a brand-new English voice-over and Hungarian text, and plenty of other polish under the hood. Other languages are in the works, but for now I’ve had to temporarily turn them off.
And two things in particular make me ridiculously happy.
The new prologue is probably my favourite part of the updated demo. I really love how it introduces the mechanics naturally, without stopping the game to explain absolutely everything to you.
And the lipsync!
Yes, I know, it's such a small thing, who cares...? Well, I do! So... yeah. There's lipsync. Enjoy!
If you played the old demo, come back and have another look at the beginning. There’s new stuff waiting for you there, while the familiar parts of the story are still there further on.
And if you’ve never played it before… well, what are you waiting for? Go check it out!
This update is also a little bit of a signal flare: I’m putting on the finishing touches for Chapter I and Early Access. There’s still work to do, of course... more bugs to hunt, more audio to process, and undoubtedly several new problems waiting patiently for me in the darkness. But I’m really, really excited for you to finally see Chapter I in all its glory!
The new demo is my way of poking my head back out into the world and saying:
Hey. Remember this game? It's still here.
And if you’re looking for something else to play while you wait, a little spin-off game Behind the Beyond: Ulti is already available on Steam.
Thank you for sticking around all this time. Now go poke around the new demo and see what you find!
