Thanks to player reports, I was able to track down and fix an issue with how the game handled mouse and controller input when both were available.
How controls now work
The game can be played using keyboard & mouse or controllers. To make their behavior more predictable, Force Keyboard & Mouse now has a very clear purpose:
- Force Keyboard & Mouse OFF: controllers are detected normally. If a controller is connected, the game can use it for gameplay and for the virtual cursor in menus. Local co-op is available when enough controllers are connected.
- Force Keyboard & Mouse ON: the game operates entirely in keyboard & mouse mode and ignores all gamepad connections, including controllers connected while the game is already running.
- Because controllers are ignored while Force Keyboard & Mouse is active, this mode is single-player only. Local co-op requires multiple controllers and is therefore unavailable while keyboard & mouse is forced.
- Turning Force Keyboard & Mouse OFF again: connected controllers become available immediately and can take priority normally. Local co-op becomes available again.
- If the mouse is disconnected while Keyboard & Mouse is forced: the game has a safety fallback that releases the forced mode, allowing a connected controller to take over rather than leaving you without usable controls.
- Restarting the game: your Force Keyboard & Mouse preference is remembered between sessions.
The Controls screen now also displays “Keyboard Forced” when this mode is active, making it clear that controllers are intentionally being ignored.
Controls & Mouse Fixes
- Fixed the mouse cursor freezing when opening an in-game menu with a controller connected.
- Force Keyboard & Mouse now consistently ignores connected controllers across gameplay and menus.
- Controllers connected while Force Keyboard & Mouse is already active are ignored as well.
- Local co-op is unavailable while keyboard & mouse is forced, as local co-op requires multiple controllers.
- Turning the option off restores normal controller detection and local co-op functionality.
- Your control preference is now remembered between game sessions.
- Added a fallback when the mouse is disconnected, allowing controller input to become available again.
- Added a “Keyboard Forced” indicator to the Controls screen.
Thanks again for the reports and feedback. They help me track down these edge cases and make the controls more reliable for everyone.
