Nova Swarm Patch Notes: Overrun & the New Command Deck

Nova Swarm has more ways to fly now, so the command deck has been rebuilt to make those choices easier to understand before launch.

Overrun

Overrun is a new late-game mode for pilots who want to start where a normal run is already getting unreasonable.

  • Reach Sector 30 in Mayhem to unlock Overrun.
  • Overrun begins at Sector 51 with zero score and no skipped-sector rewards.
  • Choose between Pure and Tactical loadouts. Tactical starts with Damage Up, Rapid Fire, Blink Drive, Focus Lens, and Double Shot, then regular boss Drafts continue shaping the run.
  • New late-run encounter escalation keeps the pressure growing beyond the old Sector 60 horizon.
  • Overrun awards 65% of normal Career XP. Cumulative Pilot Order progress remains active.
  • Overrun does not submit to the global leaderboard, unlock achievements, or create checkpoint unlocks.
  • Pure and Tactical each keep their own personal best, saved through Steam Cloud, so you can chase and beat your own record.

Overrun launches with a local personal-score chase rather than a global Steam leaderboard. If enough players request a dedicated Overrun leaderboard, it is something we may add later.

The mode also has a proper unlock celebration, clearer locked-state guidance, loadout explanations, and distinct menu voice lines for locked and unlocked pilots.

A clearer run-mode menu

  • Mayhem Tactical and Mayhem Pure now live together as two ranked rulesets instead of competing for separate top-level menu space.
  • Daily Challenge, Scout Run, Sector Run, and Overrun have clearer roles, rewards, restrictions, and launch rules.
  • The selected mode gets a structured briefing with the important facts up front and a deeper details view when you want it.
  • Mode selectors, keyboard focus, controller focus, and mouse hover are easier to read without covering the ship in a wall of glowing frames.
  • Music, Help, Exit, and the bottom navigation bar have been visually calmed down so the ship and current selection remain the focus.
  • Fixed the Tactical/Pure selector trimming the final letters on a fresh launch.

Pilot Orders

  • Pilot Orders are back on the command deck in a cleaner, easier-to-scan panel.
  • Progress is shown with clearer objectives, rewards, icons, and progress bars.
  • Cumulative orders now keep their progress between eligible runs instead of quietly forgetting the work.
  • Order progress remains visible without fighting the selected-mode briefing for space.

Run Report rebuilt

The Run Report is now a proper combat dashboard instead of a wall of evenly weighted text. Run, combat, survival, and progression stats have clearer hierarchy, Tactical upgrades are grouped together, and counter advice and Pilot Order progress remain easy to find.

Sector Run and launch fixes

  • Sector Run now exposes every unlocked five-sector start point through the full current sector roadmap, rather than stopping at Sector 60.
  • Fixed Overrun incorrectly starting with an extra-life powerup.
  • Fixed transient input state carrying into a new run and interfering with launch or selection.
  • Overrun boss announcements now identify the boss that actually enters the arena.
  • Tactical Draft choices now settle into the correct Active Build slot and remain visible for a beat before combat resumes.
  • Fixed Tactical Draft stat previews, boss signature warning stability, and several menu text clipping and overlap cases.
  • Added broader resolution, keyboard, controller, and localization checks around the new command deck.

This pass is about making the cabinet easier to read without making it quieter. Pick the run you actually want, know what it changes, and then make the usual terrible decisions at speed.
