One needs to enable it from the game options from the main menu to see them. Doing it during a game session will require you to reload the scenario/save.
The new feature might have some impact on raw performances, but shouldn't impact time compression.

Added air intercept alerts.
Added a new pop-up alert that appears whenever the player’s fighters encounter an enemy scout, strike group, or escort force for the first time. The alert pauses the game and allows the player to jump directly into the cockpit of the nearest fighter, focus on that fighter in the 3D world, or skip the encounter.
These alerts will only appear once for each enemy force. Subsequent interceptions of the same force will not trigger an alert.
This feature can be disabled in the settings. When disabled, these alerts will no longer appear during gameplay.
Bug Fixes
IJN Type 91 air-launched torpedo performance has been tweaked. Its much more limited range might have a visible impact on how long an American carrier needs to keep dodging them before being in the clear.
Several crashes & air ops bugs corrected.
