Version: 1.7.0

New:

Korean, German, and Brazilian Portuguese language support.

Fixes:

1. Substantially improved the English translation. It now stays closer to what the Chinese originally meant, and reads more naturally.

2. Added a few more sound-effect cues.

3. Corrected a typo in the dictionary.

Developer Note:

WILL: A Wonderful World has always been unusually hard to translate — both because of how its systems work, and because so much of its writing lives in letters written in each character’s own voice. In the years after launch, with help from many friends, I slowly put together Traditional Chinese, English, Japanese, Russian, Spanish, French, and more. It wasn’t easy, and I’m truly grateful to everyone who lent a hand. The game itself stayed fairly stable, so for the past few years there weren’t new updates. During that time I kept working on a new game, and I kept hearing from players of WILL: A Wonderful World. Time passes. Some of the ideas the game expresses may feel less welcome today than they once did. But looking back after all these years, its systems and its twist-driven storytelling still feel sharp to me. So after looking into it, I decided to give the game one more major update — adding Korean, German, and Brazilian Portuguese, so more people can try this slightly weird game. Chang Gyeong-min, Kang Baek-ya, and Park Sang-gun are Korean characters whose voices were recorded by Korean actors from the start; and having Korean in the game now just feels right.

While working on this update, since Brazilian Portuguese and German are usually translated from English, I noticed that in quite a few places the English wasn’t precise enough — it had drifted from what the Chinese was trying to say. WILL: A Wonderful World is an ensemble story: the relationships are complex, the information dense, and the clues tightly interlocked. When the wording is off, players can easily miss the full truth of what happened. So I’ve substantially revised the English as well, to keep the German and Brazilian Portuguese versions accurate. The Russian, French, and Spanish versions that were translated from the older English will be adjusted to the new English in a future update (timing TBA).

If you’re a player from Korea, Brazil, or a German-speaking country: I hope you enjoy the game, and I’d be deeply grateful if you’d leave a review on Steam. For translation bugs or suggestions, please write to:

Feel free to write in your native language — I can use translation tools to understand you and reply.

If you’re a player from an English-speaking country: when you’re looking for something to spend an evening with, I’d warmly suggest revisiting WILL: A Wonderful World. This version’s translation may show you something new. Reviews on Steam are very welcome; for any translation bugs or suggestions, same contacts as above.

If you’re in China or Japan: this update won’t feel like a huge change from the last version. But if you open the game, you’ll find a “Letter from 9 Years Later” on the title screen. And if you have friends in Korea, Germany, or Brazil, I’d love it if you recommended the game to them. Love you all!

If you’re from a Spanish-, French-, or Russian-speaking country: please look forward to the next update. But if you’re comfortable with English, you’re more than welcome to revisit the game in English and report any suspicious “translation errors” you find. How steady and faithful the English version is will matter a lot for Spanish, French, and Russian next time.

Finally, I want to say this. There are more and more games on Steam now. For players, new releases come every day, and it’s hard to tell which ones are actually worth playing. For developers, flashy marketing tricks are everywhere, and looking back at a project that still feels endlessly far from finished only adds to the anxiety. People are getting more impatient; things made with real care are getting rarer. That you’ve read this far means a lot to me — it feels like a real connection between us. I cherish that. Hope our paths cross again.:)
