Hi everyone!
Today I want to give you a first look at one of the main changes coming in Update 0.1.5: a complete rework of Challenge Mode.
The biggest change is the introduction of unlockable riders. Each rider will be different, with their own strengths and weaknesses, and you’ll need to complete different objectives to unlock them all.
Challenge riders will also wear unique jerseys that won’t be shared with other riders. This is a first small step towards some of the bigger features I’m planning for upcoming updates related to teams.
Because of all these changes, I’ll also be resetting Challenge Mode progress when the update is released. I hope this won’t be too much of an inconvenience, but I think it makes sense considering how much the mode is changing.
There will also be some important changes to the AI in Challenge Mode, which I eventually plan to bring over to Season Mode as well.
Each rider will now have their own abilities, so some will be stronger in the mountains, others on flat stages, in sprints, and so on. My goal is to make races feel more varied and dynamic depending on who you’re racing against.
I also want to spend some time improving the overall balance and difficulty. I don’t want the challenges to feel either too easy or frustratingly difficult, and getting that right requires quite a bit of testing.
I’m hoping to release Update 0.1.5 within the next few weeks, ideally before the end of La Vuelta a España.
After that, my next goal is to add an editor for Challenge names and Challenge rider names, before moving on to the much bigger Teams Update.
Thanks again to everyone who keeps playing, sharing feedback and supporting Cycling Champion!
See you on the road!
