Demo Update: Stable Physics & Research Mode

Hello everyone! We’ve released a major update for the Unknot! demo, introducing a new physics option and a new way to contribute to mathematical research. Full details below:

Stable Physics Mode

• Add: A new Stable physics mode with more precise and consistent rope simulation.

• Improve: Stable mode no longer uses the automatic freezing system that could interrupt play when a knot became unstable.

• Please note: Stable mode changes how the rope feels when dragging, releasing, and settling. If you are used to the previous physics, please take a moment to adjust. Other physics modes remain available in Settings.

Research Mode

• Add: Research Mode. By playing specially selected knot problems, you can help mathematicians investigate open questions in knot theory.

• For your play data to contribute to this research, it needs to be uploaded. When the research notice appears, please select “Agree & Upload.” Data is uploaded only after you give your consent.

• Research Mode uses Stable physics by default to provide more accurate and consistent simulation data.

• Research Levels also feature new background music. Special thanks to James Suh for the new music!

Coming to the Full Version

Stable Physics Mode and Research Mode will be added to the full version of Unknot! in the near future. The full version will also receive more Research Levels, all available completely free of charge.

Thank you for playing the Unknot! demo—and for helping us explore the mathematics of knots!
