Afallon - Patch 0.14.4

World Quests

World Quests are here! There are currently 13 World Quests that spawn across the world as random events. Right now they are mostly kill quests and World Bosses, but the system is built to grow. You can spot them on the map as blue quest icons. Each one has a countdown timer and will disappear when it hits zero, but new quests are constantly rotating in so there is always something to do. If you miss one, don't worry, they come back in time. I have built some great tools around this system that will let me create random events and make the world change dynamically going forward.

Adventurer Trading and Chat

  • Trading with Adventurers is now in the game. You can trade items from your inventory with items in theirs. They will accept items they don't need at the same value as a vendor, but if you have something they actually want, they are willing to pay much more. If an Adventurer spots an item they want in your inventory, they will ask you to trade and open a window offering you gold or items for it. Adventurers will also trade among themselves.

  • Adventurer chat bubbles have been added. They will "talk" with you and other Adventurers. For now this mostly involves asking for trades and congratulating you when you level up if they are nearby. This feature will be expanded for more interaction between Adventurers and the player.

Quest System

  • Quest progression text has been added. When you pick up a quest item or kill a quest NPC, it will now show on screen (for example: "Boars killed: 5/10").

  • Quest tracking has been revamped. HUD and map quest indicators will only show when you have a quest tracked. Quests are still auto-added to your tracking list when accepted, but if you remove one from the tracked list it will stay removed even when you restart the game or switch characters.

  • Hovering over quest icons on the map now tells you which quest they belong to.

  • Fixed a bug with the quest "Cleansing the Nest" where progress would reset so it could never be finished.

New Abilities

  • Necromancer: New ability added, "Summon Skeleton Pyromancer."

  • Assassin: New ability added, "Ambush."

  • Assassin Stealth now functions as a toggle.

Loot and Gear

  • Two new dungeon leather sets have been added.

  • Fixed some dungeon loot issues where the wrong loot tables were assigned.

Combat and NPCs

  • NPCs now have an aggro range and will run back and reset when you move too far from the spot where you aggroed them.

  • Fall damage has been added.

  • Overall improvement to targeting and NPC hitboxes.

  • Fixed a targeting bug in Coalway Swamp.

  • Fixed a bug where Enraged Cragborn could not be targeted.

  • Fixed the Ignivar the Unhinged health/combat bug in Challenge Stone Pyromancer.

UI and Quality of Life

  • Map UI panel has been redesigned so it no longer takes up the whole screen.

  • Map keybind rebind now works.

  • Minimap shaking bug fixed.

  • Night and other dark areas are now much brighter for better visibility.

  • Motion blur effect removed.

Bug Fixes and Performance

  • Performance improvements with reduced CPU usage and a reduction in stuttering and lag spikes.

  • Fixed a bug where movement speed buffs from mounts or items would calculate incorrectly and get stuck as a permanent speed buff until the character was reloaded.

  • Fixed a bug where Adventurer abilities would dismount the player.

What is Next

Here is what I am planning for the next patch:

  • Housing. Buying, selling, and decorating houses and businesses. Earning money from them.

  • Druid class.

  • Memory management overhaul that should bring a much lower file size for the game.

  • More quests, content, overall polish, and bug fixes.
