Port Zaer, 1947 - Chairman Leon Malenyev of United Contana, leader of the Contanan Security Pact, today called upon member nations to set aside their differences as preparations begin for Zaerland’s accession to the bloc.
Sparks of unrest have emerged amid growing tensions across eastern Merkopa and northern Rika, prompting Chairman Malenyev to speak out. Relations between Galmland and Valgsland have continued to deteriorate following the latter's expansion of its fishing grounds near the disputed coastal ridges, despite Galmland's accession to the CSP last year.
Questions of alliance unity have gained added significance as Zaerland prepares to join the Pact. Observers cite the country's long-standing tensions with neighboring Imaland, already a CSP member, as a potential source of friction. A renewal of speculation that Imaland may seek to delay Zaerland‘s application has emerged in recent weeks, though officials in both nations have declined to comment.
Addressing delegates in Port Zaer, Chairman Malenyev stressed the importance of cooperation among Pact members as the alliance enters a period of expansion.
“The future of the Pact depends upon the solidarity of its members,” Chairman Malenyev declared. “Even the highest ridges between our peoples must not be permitted to hinder our common purpose.” PACT UNITY UNDER STRAIN: MALENYEV SPEAKS OUT
