Europa 1410’s EA Release Date and Clarifying Our Vision

Dear Friends of The Guild,

We are excited to announce that The Guild 1 Remake: Europa 1410 will launch into Early Access in exactly four weeks, on the 17th of September. We will also update the demo on the same day, so its content is on par with the Early Access version of the main game. This is a huge milestone for us, and we cannot wait to see the game in your hands. But wait, what's that about the name? Wasn't the game just called The Guild - Europa 1410? Yes, that's right: The Guild - Europa 1410 is being renamed to The Guild 1 Remake: Europa 1410.

With this name change, we hope to clearly communicate that our game is inspired by the first Guild game, namely Europa 1400: The Guild. Though the later Guild games have their own identities and atmospheres, and many in the community have grown to love The Guild 2 and The Guild 3, the later Guild games and their life sim elements are not the primary points of reference for Europa 1410. We want to make this distinction clear from the name, as our mechanics and systems are reminiscent of the first Guild game: an economic simulator set in medieval times, focusing on managing your business, dynasty, and politics from a strategic perspective, rather than by directly controlling your characters. Players will know from the get-go what they can expect in Europa 1410, as well as our goals and vision as a development team.

What’s changing?

Along with our game’s name, you will also see the following changes:

  • Our key art has been updated to reflect our new name and better depict what the gameplay will be like

  • Our logo has been updated to show The Guild 1 Remake: Europa 1410

  • The Steam store page has been renamed to reflect the name change

  • Our demo will be updated regularly and accessible on Steam through the main game’s Steam page

The demo originally had its own Steam page, separate from the main game. As part of this transition, we’ve decided to bring the demo and the full game together under one Steam page - giving us one central place for the community to follow development and play the demo. We plan to keep the demo updated throughout Early Access and beyond, so we hope that you keep an eye out and keep track of Europa 1410 and our development progress! This transition has also given us an opportunity to reflect on the feedback we’ve received so far. We know that some members of the community entered the world of The Guild through the 2nd or the 3rd game in the series, and came to Europa 1410 with nostalgia from the latter games. This brought about expectations for our game to be similar to The Guild 2 or 3, and we completely understand that our fans may have been disappointed to find out that Europa 1410 is inspired by Europa 1400: The Guild. These views helped us recognize that we could have communicated more clearly, and we hope The Guild 1 Remake: Europa 1410 helps us work towards clarity in our vision and aims.At the same time, we want to acknowledge the many players who recognized what we're working towards. From the beginning, we sought to make a game inspired by Europa 1400 - this is what we have always tried to communicate. We have seen community members speak up in support of Europa 1410, as these players have voiced their excitement that we have returned to the roots of The Guild series, bringing back and expanding upon the beloved economic sim that was released in the early 2000s.For our passionate community who’ve supported us from the beginning: thank you, from the bottom of our hearts! Your support means a lot to our small team, especially when discussions around our demo and Europa 1410 have sometimes been dominated by expectations for a game similar to later games of The Guild series.Ultimately, we want the game to be seen and reviewed based on what we are setting out to create. We also want players to be able to make an informed decision about whether that vision is the Guild experience they are looking for. With Early Access coming on the 17th of September, we felt that this was the right moment to transition to The Guild 1 Remake: Europa 1410, so that everyone in the community knows what kind of Guild game they can expect. Fans of the first Guild game can also look forward to the return of Aart Veder, who is reprising his role as the narrator in German!

Thank you for following our journey so far, for playing our demo, and sharing your feedback. We hope you stay with us throughout our Early Access journey - we’re excited to build The Guild 1 Remake: Europa 1410 together with you, our passionate community!
