Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 - Combat Customization Explained

A recent trailer for DRAGON BALL XENOVERSE 3 introduced the six avatar races available in the game, including the newly added Android race. More than ever, players will be able to create a fighter that reflects their own vision, combining race-specific transformations, mentor-based.

At the center of the experience is a vibrant West City hub, where players can walk through the city, meet characters, take on quests, discover stories, and interact with other players online. From cafés and plazas to apartments, a university, and more, the city is designed as a lively space where players can prepare for battle and uncover new activities.

Players can also discover various items throughout the city, including coins, boosts, BGM tracks, and important items such as MistyPix, which play a key role in unlocking new mentor-related possibilities.

One of the major new features in XENOVERSE 3 is the MistyPix and its related Mentor system. By collecting MistyPix, players can summon characters through the Fortuneteller Gal thanks to new technologies existing in AGE 1000. Once summoned, these characters can appear in AGE 1000 and act as mentors, offering quests and missions.

Completing these missions helps increase the player’s Bond level with each mentor. Bond progression then opens the door to deeper customization through each character’s Skill Tree, where players can use Bond points to unlock features linked to that mentor, including Soul Assist, Soul Switch, Fighting Styles, and Super or Ultimate Attacks.

Soul Assist allows players to call in an assist character during battle. Different assists can provide various effects, such as buffs or additional attacks, giving players another way to express their preferred strategy.

Soul Switch lets players house a mentor’s Soul within their own body, allowing them to take on that character’s appearance and use their techniques Super and Ultimate Attacks.

Awoken skills. Players can also choose not to use Soul Switch and instead rely on the Awoken Skill specific to their avatar’s race. With six avatar races available, including the newly added Android race, each fighter can evolve in a different way.

The development team has also refined Awoken Skills based on player feedback from events and hands-on sessions around the world. Awoken Skills no longer have a time limit; instead, they are tied to the player’s Ki Gauge. As long as players have Ki remaining, they can stay in their Awoken form. However, if their Ki Gauge reaches 0 or they enter Ki Break status, they will return to their standard form.

A Ki Charge action has also been added to the basic controls, allowing players to recover both Ki and the Awoken Skill gauge. This change encourages players to think carefully about when to transform and how to manage their resources during battle.

Fighting Style changes the avatar’s motions and combos based on the Soul character selected. Rather than selecting separate actions one by one, a Fighting Style works as a full set of movement and combat behaviors, including how the fighter flies, idles, steps, guards, and chains attacks together.

Fighting Styles greatly expand the possibilities for personalization.

Another key customization element is Abilities. Abilities can be linked to Battle Gear, costumes, equipped Souls, and the avatar’s race. While many abilities adjust stats and parameters, others can significantly change how the player fights, such as allowing players to fire more Ki blasts, extend their range, or enhance evasion actions and distance. The goal is not only to increase numbers, but to shape the player’s ideal fighter.

With six avatar races, race-specific Awoken Skills, Soul Assist, Soul Switch, Fighting Styles, Abilities, and 130 characters to learn from, DRAGON BALL XENOVERSE 3 gives players a wide range of ways to shape their ideal fighter. Whether players want to follow the path of a favorite character, experiment with different combat options, or create a style that is entirely their own, the journey through AGE 1000 is built around freedom, variety, and personal expression.
