June Devlog: The Blizzard Arrives

Greetings, Innkeepers!

Welcome to the June devlog.

We have some great news: the gameplay for Chapters 10 to 12 is now complete! Our current focus is on creating the remaining assets, including music, event CGs, and the finishing touches that will bring the final chapters to life.

Previously in April, we introduced the first two winter mechanics: Snowdrifts and Icy Roads. This month, we'd like to reveal the final one…

New Winter Mechanic: Blizzard

The Blizzard is a key mechanic of Chapter 11, designed to create one of the toughest challenges in the game.

In the world of Dungeon Inn, a fierce blizzard sweeps across the land for around ten days every winter. Despite the freezing temperatures, adventurers continue their journeys in pursuit of victory for their guilds.

Unlike regular snowfall, where either a Snowdrift or an Icy Road appears each turn, blizzard days work differently.

During a blizzard:

  • 1-2 Snowdrifts appear each turn and Icy Roads no longer appear.

  • Every adventurer travelling outdoors gains 1 stack of Coldness at the start of each turn.

  • If an adventurer reaches 5 stacks of Coldness without taking shelter, they will freeze to death.

As such, the blizzard introduces a brand new quest type: Avoiding Freezing.

Sara and her friends certainly have their work cut out for them, but we're confident you'll help them survive the harsh winter.

How We Designed the Blizzard

Balancing the Blizzard mechanic took a lot of testing.

During development, we found that adventurers with only 2 movement points couldn't reliably survive a blizzard, so they won't spawn at all on blizzard days. We also reduced Snowdrift generation from 2-3 to 1-2 per turn, as the original version proved too punishing even for average-speed adventurers.

We hope the final result strikes a good balance between challenge and fairness. 😊

What's Next?

With the gameplay complete, our next priority is finishing the remaining assets, preparing translation reference documents and playing through the entire game from Chapters 1 to 12 to polish the overall experience.

In the later stages of the game, we noticed that players often accumulated maximum stats and excess resources, making some decisions feel less meaningful than intended.

Over the coming months, we'll be carefully adjusting progression and balance so that your choices continue to matter all the way to the ending.

Dev Life Update

This month's recommendation is watermelon and tomato carpaccio. (This is becoming something of a monthly Cat Society recipe segment…😀)

Blend watermelon and tomatoes in roughly a 5:1 ratio with a small pinch of salt until smooth. Pour it into a bowl, then finish with a few twists of black pepper, a drizzle of olive oil, and, if you like, a few fresh mint leaves.

While Dungeon Inn is in the middle of a freezing winter, many of us here in the Northern Hemisphere are experiencing the complete opposite.

We hope you're staying healthy, and we'll see you in the next devlog! 🏡
