Dev Log #3: A Room That Moves Like People

A new build is out. Most of it is about the people in the room, and how they move through it.

A room that moves like people

Guests, staff and you now slide past each other instead of shoving. A doorway that two parties want at once stops being a traffic jam. Underneath, a walker who is braking at a closed door and a walker who genuinely cannot get anywhere are treated as different things: the first is left alone, the second is recovered step by step rather than snapped back to a spawn point. A guest who drifts off their spot walks back to it.

The crew arrives, and rests

Hires no longer blink into existence at their counter when the doors open. They start the day outside on the pavement and walk in through the front door like anyone else. When the floor goes quiet they go and lean on a bare stretch of wall, never one you have hung something on, with three new lean idles behind it.

The health inspector thinks out loud

His walk-around has a voice now. He reads the room as he crosses it, and what he finds becomes the remark he makes about it, in his own cloud over his head. You can watch the grade forming.

The first fire you light yourself

Fumble a coal onto the coal station's mat instead of the burner or the bowl and it chars. A mark at two seconds, smoke at twelve, flames at twenty-six. Lifting the coal off is a real save, and the scorch stays as a record. If it does catch, the station burns down. It leaves your inventory and comes back only by buying another one from the shop, and the day cannot open without a coal station. That is the pressure.

Small things you will notice

  • Hookahs stand where you can count them. Clean and dirty units sit as props on the station that owns them, with a badge carrying the true total once the rack runs out of room.
  • Dim the room without leaving service. Right-click a lamp while the lounge is open to adjust its brightness and warmth, without opening Decorate.
  • Take a bowl off a hire mid-pack. A bowl someone is already packing shows a ring in place. Clicking it is an explicit handover instead of a race that silently erased one of you.
  • Staff job marks are filled shapes in the game's own icon language, centred on the coin, instead of thin line art.

Fixed

  • The wrong drink no longer closes a guest's ticket.
  • A packed bowl nobody is holding stays on the prep board. It used to vanish into a database row between a hire finishing it and walking back for it, so you saw an empty slot and could not pick it up.
  • Challenge terms state the live target instead of a stale one.
  • The origin story's last panel shows your own lounge name on the sign.
  • Lounge chatter takes turns instead of talking over itself.
  • The "Order Tobacco" lesson can be finished. It waited for a delivery that could never arrive during the build phase, stranding the Lounge Setup track at 5 of 7.
  • The wash station's rack knows which bucket it owns again.

The lounge can go wrong now, in ways you can plan for, and every new unlock comes with a reason to try it. Accidents and fire A busy room has risks. A hard bump into a guest, or two hires crowding the same spot, can shatter a hookah: it leaves your stock, the glass has to be cleaned up, the order goes back in the queue, and the table is not happy about the…Community13 Sep 2026Dev Log #4: Levels, and a Look at TomorrowA new build is out, v0.1.1-alpha.238. This one is about how the lounge grows, and about knowing what tomorrow looks like before you open the doors. Levels own the unlocks The lounge has a real progression now. Every task that gets done in the room earns XP: seating a party, taking an order, packing a bowl, delivering it, swapping coals, washing a hookah, stocking a delivery, cashing out, wiping…Community4 Sep 2026Dev Log #2: Hire a CrewYou've been running the whole lounge yourself. Now you can hire people. You can hire a crew Ten people are looking for work, each with their own name, face and wage. Every hire can do all ten jobs in the lounge. There are no locked roles, so what separates two people is their traits and the job board you hand them. The board lists ten jobs in the order you put them, each with an on/off switch a…
