We are proud to release the first major update for Ropeat! This update focuses on game progression and a more customizable experience.

Interactive Tutorial

When you start the game for the first time after this update, you will go right into a tutorial that explains the mechanics and how to use them. And yes, veteran players may simply skip it by returning to the main menu. The tutorial can always be accessed again from there.

Modifiers

Modifiers let you adjust how the game works in a variety of ways! You can activate any combination of modifiers - mix and match!

Remember the "Strategic Game Mode", and the setting for reducing the Loop Time to 4 seconds? Those have now become the Modifiers "Coin Carry" and "Faster Factory" - and we added 11 additional modifiers! Some adjust the balance of the game while others add new features or completely change how you play the game. For example:

  • "Slow Shooting" and "Infinite Ammo" affect the fire rate of all bots.

  • "Ghost Followers" makes all bots intangible that are not actively being controlled.

  • "Kill Score" awards coins for destroying other player's bots.

To not overwhelm players, modifiers start locked and get unlocked as you play the game. Instead of spoiling all of their effects here, discover them for yourself!

Customizable Powerups

Like Modifiers, Powerups can now also be activated individually, and you unlock them as you play. The Powerup menu also features a brief description of each powerup.

New Levels

We've added two new level prototypes to the game:

  • Duel is a particularly small level. While it works best for 1v1s, up to 6 players can battle it out in teams.

  • House features many narrow corridors, making suppressive fire even more effective. This level supports up to 4 players.

Other changes

  • Improved the lighting in the "Lanes" level.
    For that low-budget Cyberpunk feel.

  • Improved the appearance of bots.
Now featuring a small rotating cogwheel that seemingly serves no purpose...

  • Improved the look of the leading-player-indicator.
The leading player deserved a fabulous crown. Something that conveys "I'm winning, target me."

  • Bot-Players now work with the "Coin Carry" modifier (formerly "Strategic Mode").
They understand now that it's a bad strategy to throw coins at their enemies.

  • Small rendering improvements, like Anti-Aliasing.
Not sure what this Aliasing is, but we're against it.

  • Fixed some spots where one could fall off the map.
Falling off the map should only happen with consent (i.e. using the appropriate modifier).

  • Increased visibility of final scores.
Everyone loves to watch number go up.

  • Projectiles look different depending on their height to make them easier to distinguish.
It's like depth perception, except not really.

  • Made Powerup Spawners slightly more visible.
    Shiny pedestals for shiny Powerup.

  • Small spacing improvements in the menu.
Our menu elements were feeling claustrophobic. They still do, but not as much.

We hope you enjoy! If you find bugs or have ideas for improvements, feel free to post them on the Community Hub.
