Update 0.1.2 - The Living Village Update

Dark Workshop Simulator Demo · published 10 Jul 2026, 20:27 UTC

All newsPlayers around this dateRead on Steam

The biggest update since the demo launched. The shop stopped being a vending machine and started being a place in a village.

Word of Mouth

Demand is now earned. Assign an item to a shelf and word starts spreading. Keep it stocked and demand grows. Pull it and the village forgets. You can now specialize: run a potions shop, a weapons den, whatever you want. Nobody asks for things you never sold.

Item Rarity

Every item is now Common, Uncommon, or Rare. Rare stock brings better margins and more thieves. Your shelves are now a risk-versus-reward decision.

Bulk Discounts

Order x10 for 20% off. Order x50 for 40% off. All shown clearly on the ordering screen.

Angry Customers

Unhappy customers now walk to the problem shelf, react visibly, and complain out loud. Same penalties, no longer invisible.

More in this update:

  • The skull has ambient opinions and reacts to shop events

  • Carried items sway with your footsteps, crates kick up dust on landing

  • Gold counter and fame bar now animate smoothly

  • Tutorial popups cut from 26 to 16

  • Faster fame progression for the demo

  • New font with localization support for five languages

Every craft now opens a full screen glyph and you trace it by hand, against a timer, with wet ink drying behind the nib. Run out of time or back out and you lose nothing, because the ingredients are only spent when the sigil closes. All six stations work this way. Every menu, item, recipe, contract and line of the Whispering Skull's dialogue is translated, and the game picks your system language automatically on first launch. You can change it any time in Settings. An honest note: every language other than English is machine translated and has not yet been reviewed by a nat…Major update4 Aug 2026Dark Workshop 0.2.0: The Customers Are Not GratefulDark Workshop 0.2.0 The demo has had two weeks of heavy work. The shop is prettier, meaner, and considerably more opinionated about how you run it. Customers can turn on you. Most browse politely. Some sweep your stock onto the floor and take a swing at the furniture. Keep the hammer handy, or put a Guard on the payroll. Your furniture breaks . Shelves and racks take real damage now, and somebo…
