August has been a busy month for Omnicore, with a lot of work going into expanding the roguelike systems, adding new content to discover underground, and improving the overall presentation of the game.
A large part of the month was spent building out the new roguelike upgrade system.
To test the system I have made generic upgrades which modify weapons and equipment in a variety of ways, including upgrades with multiple stat changes and tradeoffs. I've also been working on making the reward screen itself feel much more satisfying, with improved cards, sounds, animations and clearer information about what each upgrade does.
With that said they still require a lot more work on presentations, and I will keep adding exciting hand-crafted upgrades during the rest of the development.
Work has also started on a new system for spawning special rooms throughout the mines.
One of the first additions using this system is the Broken Mech, which can be discovered while mining and analyzed to unlock upgrade cards for the drill and jetpack.
I've started replacing the old spherical resource drops with proper rock and ore chunks.
There is still more work to do here, but even this first pass makes mining and collecting resources feel considerably better.
And finally, Omnicore got its first Early Alpha Trailer this month!
It shows the current state of mining, combat, upgrades and multiplayer while the game is still very much in development.
There's still a long way to go, but the pieces are gradually starting to come together.
Thanks for following the development of Omnicore!
