Hey everyone! Version 0.0.2 is here, and it's a big one. This update covers a huge amount of ground — new content, a full UI overhaul, controller improvements, a brand new starting area, and a mountain of bug fixes. Let's get into it.

The Vestibule

The biggest addition in this update is the Vestibule — a brand new starting hub area before you head into Hell proper. Here you can browse every item, enemy, and boss in the game through a series of interactive books and displays, giving you the knowledge you need before your run begins. There's also a training corpse to practice on, a bestiary, a character showcase, and Penny — our demonic rat NPC — who is lurking in the Vestibule and ready to meet you. Everything you discover on your runs will unlock here, so it grows with you.

New Pickups

Loads of new pickups have been added across all three categories:

Stackables (Weapons): Bogey Shot, Cardinal Sin, Mortal Sin, Hellfire Stream, Bubble Trouble, Mop, a new Charge Shot system and more!

One Hit Wonders: Fury, High Velocity, Bullet Frenzy, Bloodthirst, Soul Stealer, Paranoia, Teleportation Sickness, Phase Out, FourWayFire, Coulrophobia, and more — including some intentionally negative ones. You have been warned.

Souls Abilities: Soul Mend, Blight Orb, Hellstorm, Void Pulse, Frost Nova, and Soul Swarm join the roster alongside the existing Demonic Shield and Inferno Burst.

Gluttony — Full AI Overhaul

Gluttony has been completely rebuilt from the ground up. His movement system has been fully reworked, and he now has two brand new attacks that he didn't have before — a puke attack with a full Phase 2 variant featuring dual streams simultaneously (one from the mouth, one from the belly), and a minion summon attack where he calls in Gnawbone, Crumbelina, and Beefzebub to join the fight. This is a very different Gluttony from what testers have seen before. Good luck.

Controller & Controls

  • Better default controller bindings

  • Controller navigation added to the pause menu

  • Fixed an issue where changing controls could result in both the new and default bindings being accepted simultaneously

  • Mouse navigation added to MiniNav menus

UI & Menus

  • The intro/splash screen now only plays on first launch, not every time you return to the main menu

  • Audio levels on the intro screen reduced — an audio mixer has been introduced with BGM levels brought down generally

  • "Press Enter" prompts added to all menu screens

  • Dialogue boxes now show the correct interact key based on your current control setup rather than always showing 'E'

  • A "Press Interact to Continue" prompt added to dialogue

  • Soul cost display updated — now shows a soul icon and "x" count for clarity

  • Doors added to the map showing their open/closed state, and enemies now appear on the map too

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed game not losing focus when minimised

  • Fixed Jester homing bullets not pausing correctly

  • Fixed boss room player freeze — now happens instantly as intended

  • Fixed dialogue freezing

  • Fixed player bullet collision with walls on spawn — also fixed for skim shots

  • Fixed chest spawning on top of pickup items

  • Reduced Running Boots speed — less chaotic, more manageable

  • Fixed a UI input subscription bug causing ghost inputs after dying and returning to the main menu

  • Fixed an Enemy activation issue in the puzzle room

  • Various other stability fixes

This is a playtest, so there are still likely to be bugs — but hopefully not as many as some AAA studio's may be known for! As always, if you spot anything please let me know in the Discord. Your feedback genuinely shapes development.

Thanks for playing! 😈
