Hey everyone!
The second Playtest for FD's Industry Tycoon opens on August 27! Like the first, it'll run for two weeks, and anyone can jump in, no approval needed. We'd love to have you play the new build and tell us what you think.
Since the first Playtest ended, we've been hard at work turning your feedback into new content and improvements. Here are the biggest changes in this build.
The game now has six victory conditions: Market Conquest, Technological Supremacy, Brand Empire, Boardroom Power, Industrial Dynasty, and a time limit victory. Pick the ones you want when you start a new game, and the first company to achieve any of them wins. Turn them all off and you get the same endless sandbox as before. Difficulty now sets your starting capital, your corporate tax burden, and how aggressive hostile competitors are. On higher difficulties, some rivals will come after your markets directly: stocking the same products you sell, undercutting your prices, moving in on your store locations, and refusing to supply you. You can track your progress in the Victory Race section of the achievements panel, and how each run ends is recorded in the Hall of Fame.
We've redesigned the economy around wages. Wage gaps between cities are now much wider, and a city's wages determine its purchasing power. When jobs pile into one city, its wages climb, and those higher wages naturally push the next factory toward another city. Corporate tax is new too. Profit is taxed in the city where it's earned, and real-world tax reform history is baked in, from the high-tax 1980s to the UAE introducing corporate tax in 2023, so the world's tax landscape depends on your start year. Wholesale prices start from a higher baseline, so margins are thicker across the whole manufacturing chain. They also move with the market: when a product sells well, the producers profit too, not just the retailers. Storage capacity and freight costs are now volume-based, and we've added dividends: companies you hold shares in pay you a dividend every quarter.
We've added a tutorial mode for anyone new to management sims. It walks you through 38 steps across 5 parts in a fixed world, covering retail, production, management, expansion, and finance in order, from opening your first retail store all the way to playing the stock market. A checklist window shows just the steps for the part you're on, and you can drag it wherever you like or collapse it out of the way. Kkooni has dedicated dialogue for every step, and if you miss something, just click Kkooni anytime during the tutorial to hear it again.
There's also a batch of quality-of-life features to take the friction out of everyday play: selecting map areas, buying, building, and demolishing in bulk, cloning an existing building onto a new site, multi-selecting line slots, and more.
Wishlist and follow the game to catch the second Playtest the moment it opens. We'll see you there, and we can't wait to hear what you think.
Thank you!
Best,
In-geon
