Waiting 3 seconds before every attempt doesn’t sound like much—until you fail 50 times in a row.

Originally, at the start of every level, players had to wait for a countdown before they could play. This was designed to help beginners get their bearings at the start of levels.

But then I realized this was slowing Milliseconds Matter down in the worst way: it punished players who were trying to improve.

So I fixed it.

Here’s what changed:

  • Adjustable countdown
I added a button in Options that allows players to control countdown time. Now beginners and casual players can still have the countdown, while experienced players can speed it up to start the level in under a second.

  • Instant restart button
Instead of opening the pause menu and pressing restart every single time you mess up, you can now hit one button to immediately retry the level.

The Result:
The game is now built for fast iteration. You can grind without friction.

This change came directly from player feedback—and it made a way bigger difference than I expected.
