MAINTAINER Major Update

This is one of the biggest updates we’ve made to MAINTAINER so far. We’ve added new Operators, a new skill system, progression, new events, new movement mechanics, new Traitor abilities, a new fear system, and a completely new way of experiencing the maps.

We’ve also fixed a lot of bugs and made several smaller improvements based on things we’ve noticed while playing and feedback from players.

Night Vision Goggles

We completely removed the flashlight and replaced it with Night Vision Goggles (NVG).

We wanted to make visibility and atmosphere a bigger part of the game instead of simply making the maps extremely dark.

The maps are now brighter, but they have much heavier fog. The NVG allows you to see through that fog, making it useful without making it mandatory.

The NVG also has a battery, so you’ll need to find batteries around the map to keep using it.

You can still play without NVG. We specifically designed the maps so that you can navigate and play normally without it. The NVG is there to give you another tool and to make visibility a decision during the match.

Fear & Traitor Proximity

We’ve added a new Fear system.

Staying close to the Traitor for too long or being chased for an extended period will gradually increase your fear.

As your fear increases, you’ll start to experience different effects, including losing stamina much faster. This makes staying in a long chase increasingly difficult and adds another layer to encounters with the Traitor.

We’ve also added distance-based Traitor effects.

The closer the Traitor is to you, the more noticeable certain visual and audio effects become. Sometimes you may know something is wrong before you even see the Traitor.

The goal is to make the Traitor’s presence feel more threatening without simply relying on seeing him directly.

New Operators & Operator Skills

  • Added 3 new Operators

  • Added the new Operator Skill System

  • Changed the Operator selection UI to make abilities easier to understand at a glance

  • Operators now have smaller collision sizes

  • Added new gameplay settings, including camera comfort settings

New Progression System

We’ve added a completely new progression system.

  • Added player Levels

  • Added XP

  • Added progression rewards

  • Added progression between matches

This gives you more reasons to keep playing and gives your progress more meaning outside of a single match.

Traitor Changes

The Traitor has also received several changes.

  • Added a new spitting mechanic

  • The Traitor now constantly leaves blood trails, giving Operators another way to track where the Traitor has been

  • Completely changed the Traitor reveal

  • Removed the eye-closing ability

  • Heavily improved blood effects

  • Fixed a bug that could make the Traitor move extremely fast after using certain skills

  • Fixed a bug where the Traitor could hit an Operator through a shield

  • Removed several Traitor buffs that were no longer contributing much to the gameplay

Movement & Chases

  • Added the Slide mechanic

  • Improved areas and routes for looping the Traitor

  • Fixed an issue where chase music could stop in the middle of a chase

Events & Gameplay

  • Added new events

  • Added new killing effects

  • Fixed the Challenge Event triggering during the Traitor's Hunt

  • Fixed the Lightning event not correctly hitting players

  • Fixed the Color Blind Event not working correctly on the Woods map

  • Improved minigame readability and feedback

Fixes & Improvements

  • Fixed different game versions being able to join the same game

  • Fixed game invites allowing players on different versions to join the same game

  • Fixed players being able to join after the match had started

  • Fixed an issue where players would sometimes not be teleported to the map

  • Added a check for Traitor disconnection. If the Traitor disconnects, the Operators can now win without having to maintain the lighthouse until morning

  • Fixed the 4-minute timer not being visible

  • Fixed audio sliders not working correctly

  • Fixed an issue where opening the pause menu during Operator selection could prevent you from selecting an Operator

  • Fixed Operator descriptions not being visible in the shop before purchasing

  • Fixed a tutorial text not disappearing correctly

  • Fixed the speaker system. Everyone can now use speakers normally by going to the stations

  • Improved overall minigame understandability

There are a lot of changes in this update, and we’re really happy with where MAINTAINER is heading.

Thank you to everyone who has played the game, reported bugs, shared feedback, or simply spent some time playing with their friends. Every bit of feedback helps us figure out what needs to change and what we should work on next.

We’ll keep improving the game and adding more to it.

Thank you for playing MAINTAINER.
