Hello everyone!
We’re happy to present a new Dead Station Files update!
Version 0.8.3 expands the ways you can interact with the station and takes the first steps toward bringing the investigation beyond the game itself. ACC terminals are now connected through a shared network, Twitch viewers can take part in streamers’ runs, and our Discord integration lays the groundwork for future community events and special tasks.
We’ve also reworked loot distribution, improved bot behavior, and added several important QoL improvements.
A new type of Speccomp has been added: the Access Point, or ACC. Activating one lets you select and apply the effect of another Speccomp.
But ACC functionality goes beyond that. Access Points let you interact with the station’s network infrastructure and inspect the contents of connected devices using authentic Infocom commands. Infocom is a software module used to browse and read files and communicate with other terminals over the network.
Find an Access Point and begin your own investigation inside the network of the dead station.
We’re continuing to connect Dead Station Files with our Discord community.
Update 0.8.3 expands the integration between Evacom authorization and content outside the game. This forms the foundation for future community events, exclusive content, and progression within the community.
For example, the most attentive players willing to dig deep can already find a way on Chernobog to contact the first person outside the station: Data Broker, one of the players on the Barnaul sector’s shadow information market. Like you, Data Broker is trying to uncover the truth behind the Chernobog catastrophe and has motives of their own.
NPC bots will become sources of special tasks that connect events within the community to the investigation of what happened aboard Chernobog XIII.
Step beyond the station: join our Discord community and authorize Evacom by following the instructions on the server to gain access to external events and new tasks.
Now you can investigate the Chernobog catastrophe together with your favorite streamers!
We’ve added Twitch integration to Dead Station Files. Viewers can take part in the gameplay by marking the required compartment or level directly from chat, voting on choices, and making predictions about the outcome of the streamer’s progress.
With this new feature, viewers become more than passive observers: they become full participants in the streamer’s run.
We’ve reworked the generation of AP supplies, LOG files, and equipment throughout the station. The changes affect both balance and the way loot is distributed.
Previously, supplies predictably appeared only in compartments marked with a “?”, while some unmarked compartments could contain LOG files in fixed amounts. Glitch Rooms served as sources of supplies or LOG files of varying rarity.
Now compartments with loot spawn points are divided into visible and hidden ones. Visible points still always contain supplies, but their value is no longer fixed. Hidden points can now contain any resource in varying amounts. This rewards exploration, creates more unexpected situations during a run, and can save you when a situation seems hopeless.
Loot value now also depends on station depth. The farther down you descend, the more valuable the finds can become.
We’ve improved bot behavior, with particular attention given to the Soldier bot and Repair bot.
The Soldier bot’s behavior is now more predictable. We fixed issues with position swapping, looping routes, delays between actions, and transitions between behavior states.
Separate visual states have also been added for attacking and waiting for the next action, making the Soldier bot’s intentions easier to read.
The Repair bot now interacts with the level more actively: extinguishing fires, opening airlocks, rearming alarms, and more.
The Repair bot can now actively interfere with your plans, either making the situation on a level worse or making it easier. A new intent indicator also shows where it is heading.
Font size settings. Added an option to use small or large fonts for room and station level names. The basic readability of room names has also been improved.
The Crowbar now works immediately after pickup. The reduced cost of clearing debris now applies on the current level as well.
Interface improvements. Fixed fonts, element sizes, and labels, including the Dock room label.
Tutorials and hints. Updated tutorial texts, expanded explanations in the Legend, and improved hints for MED.
Updated feedback screen. Leaving a Steam review, joining Discord, or filling out an anonymous form can now be done through separate cards with clearer choices.
Interface sounds. Fixed audio for unlocks and button holds.
Numerous other minor changes.
Thank you to everyone who plays, shares feedback, and reports bugs. Your observations help us improve the systems of Dead Station Files and prepare the game for release.
