We're showing We Stay Behind at gamescom again this year, and we finally built a new demo for it. Our last demo here on Steam was two years old and it was really time for an update. The new version is available to all of you right now.
THE NEW DEMO
The new demo is the current state of the project. Performance is a lot better, and the settings let you adjust things to your hardware. The interface is much improved: we built a journal and an overview of the notes Laura can find in the game, and both of those are in the demo now. Even though the demo covers the same stretch of the game, it should feel a lot better - and there's the odd little thing more to discover. And because we still thought that wasn't enough, we even pulled another scene into the demo that you couldn't play like this before.
GAMESCOM 2026
This year's gamescom is what prompted the new demo. We're showing We Stay Behind at the Indie Arena Booth in hall 10.2 - if you're in Cologne, come by our booth, say hi, grab some cool Laburnum Creek stickers and play the new demo right there with us. We're here until Sunday.
HOW THE REST OF THE GAME IS DOING
We've finally managed to implement the complete story, all the systems are running and have been fixed and polished several times over, and our text is finally locked and already translated into German - more than 13,000 lines across 18 speaking parts. The English voice recordings are in full swing, with 14 recording days and nearly 2,400 takes in the can, and the German ones should start soon. We still find bugs and we fix them, but it's almost all fine-tuning at this point. It's all finally, finally coming together.
I can't wait to hear what you think of the new demo! Let us know in the discussions here, or come hang out with us on Discord.
