This update focuses on character personalities and making each survivor feel and play unique.

We've already experimented with a few per-character movement abilities (you might've seen them on Frog, Grog, and Mambo), but now we're ready to add unique abilities to every survivor. This update adds abilities for many survivors, but there are still many more in development. If you have ideas for cool abilities that'd make sense on a character, we'd love to hear about them on Discord! (link in the game's title screen).

So without further ado, lets get into what's new in this update!

New: Survivor Abilities

Added unique abilities to the following characters:

  • Kaine: Charge Momentum - Gains up to 4x speed when continuously moving in the same direction.

  • Adele: Bulwark Vow - Gain +1 Armor for each nearby enemy, up to +12.

  • Asha: Stormwake - Lightning continuously strikes where you were 2 seconds prior.

  • Esperanza: Hearty Table - Enemies have a small chance to drop hot meals. Pick them up to heal and temporarily increase your Might.

  • Krieg: Expanded Arsenal - Can equip up to 9 weapons, instead of 6.

  • Kimbo: Focused Arsenal - Can only equip 2 weapons, instead of 6.

  • Oculus: Foresight Blink - When struck, 25% chance to blink to a nearby location.

  • Nez: Feedback Loop - When struck, deal 2x that damage back to all nearby enemies.

  • Saffi: Blighted Fervor - Earth damage applies a stacking hex on enemies hit. You deal +3% damage per active stack nearby (max +75%).

  • Ronin: Iajutsu Window - Your melee attacks each provide 0.3 of invulnerability (0.5-second cooldown).

  • Ronin: Last Stand - Your melee weapons swing 40% faster while you're below 25% health.

  • Eira: Frost Armor - When struck, briefly freeze all nearby enemies.

  • Eira: Flash Freeze - When you level up, freeze all enemies on screen for 5 seconds.

  • Vesper: Hollow Hour - While standing still, gain +50% damage after 3 seconds.

  • Halcyon: Stillness - While standing still, slowly regenerate health and gain +1 armor each second (up to +8).

  • Idessa: Sundered Crown - When struck, deal double damage for 3 seconds.

  • Zahra: Safe Passage - Every 30 seconds, gain invincibility for 2 seconds.

You can see these abilities in-game in the redesigned character select screen:

New Characters

  • Eira (Blizzard Staff) - This queen of the ice summons deadly blizzards to freeze enemies in an area (unlock: survive 30 minutes in Frostfall)

  • Kairos (Stasis Well) - Beware this studious chronomancer who can stop enemies dead in their tracks with an area slow and explosion (unlock: try the Daily Challenge!)

Gameplay Changes

  • Weapons with an on-hit explosion will no longer explode if that explosion is close enough to deal damage to the player. Friendly fire will return in a new form in the future.

  • Cheetahs will now attack by charging long distances at high speed.

  • Increased Goose speed by 50% and reduced size by 50%.

  • ATMs in Threed now drop 1-3 gold coins when destroyed.

Crafting Changes

The following affixes can no longer roll on armor; they can still roll on weapons and materials:

  • Freeze on Hit

  • Poison on Hit

  • Burn on Hit

  • Slow on Hit

UI Changes

Character Select

  • Redesigned the character selection screen to include more details about each character and their unique abilities (see below!).

  • The character select screen now remembers which character you last played and re-selects them.

  • Added a Random button to the bottom of the character select list to choose a random character for you.

Daily Challenge

  • Redesigned the daily leaderboard screen to make it easier to browse.

  • The players who place #1, #2, and #3 each day are highlighted for all to see for the following 24 hours.

  • You can now see how many days in a row you've placed on the leaderboards.

  • There's a new Share button in the top-right of the daily leaderboard that'll take a screenshot of your score for you.

Other UI

  • The inventory list now has a filter for Consumables. Note that consumables picked up in the level are still automatically consumed upon pickup; however consumables brewed at the Mirepot or bought from merchants will go to your inventory.

  • Equipped weapons will no longer show up in the inventory list at workstations that require "inserting" an item: Alchemy Table, Altar of Creation, Infuser, etc. You can unequip a weapon to insert it into these workstations. Workstations that apply effects immediately without taking the item (Grindstone, Halo Forge, etc) still show your equipped weapons in the inventory list.

  • Achievements in the codex now also describe how to achieve them.

Bugfixes

  • Fixed several bugs preventing some UI panels (especially in Settings) from scrolling correctly.

  • Fixed a handful of weapons whose sprites were ginormous when dropped from enemies.
