200K Copies Sold, Hotfix #2 Incoming & June Patch Preview

Hey Disco Crew!

We have been blown away by all the positive reception and support we’ve received from our players! Dead as Disco has an 95% Overwhelmingly Positive review score globally, and it's sold over over 200k copies in less than a week. This is absolutely mind-blowing, and it's all thanks to you!

We've spent the last week watching player streams and reading feedback, which has helped us narrow down key issues so we can respond to them quickly. This included fixing Hemlock issues we'd never seen before and stack of custom challenge issues we discovered thanks to the crazy things players have been building with them. On Monday we rolled out Hotfix 1, fixing over 30 items directly reported by players.

Check out the full Hotfix 1 Patch Notes here:

We are going to continue that quick response time with another hotfix planned for next week, followed by a fuller patch in June.

Hotfix #2

The next hotfix will be focused around Free Play and Challenge improvements, With over 30 unique songs Free Play has a ton of content for players to experience, so we're focusing on making Free Play more chill and inviting (like the Demo) while challenges continue to offer players, well... a challenge.

  • Adjustments to Stage Select to give players more information about each stage and what each difficulty entails. Now you’ll actually know what the differences are!

  • Reducing the amount of friction for getting into Free Play

  • Leaderboards are returning to Free Play songs!

  • Heart drops will be added to Free Play to make the experience more chill

  • Arora’s meteors are still a pain in the butt. We’ve got a couple more tweaks there to make them feel better

  • Some new arenas and challenges! Even with our focus on fixes, we still want to make sure we are putting in some new content as well - even in a hotfix

  • Bug fixes - yup, plenty of these!

Then in June, we’ll be looking at a larger patch that’s more feature/content focused. Things to look out for in that patch:

  • Selectable Dances feature. The current Dance Move randomly selecting a dance was always a stopgap. We’ll be introducing the ability to select which dance you want and multiple control bindings so you can style the way you want. Of course, there will be some new dance moves to earn and collect as well!

  • Challenge playlists. We’ll be giving you the ability to string together challenges back to back to create your own Challenge playlists. We are excited to see what sorts of custom craziness y’all come up with!

  • More mods for Custom Challenges. Custom challenges is an area that we will continue to improve with each and every patch. We’ll keep adding more - and we want to hear what you want!

  • The return of Arena Swapping. Players from the early demo and playtests will remember the ability to dynamically swap arenas that we had to remove due to a number of issues. We are bringing this back!

  • We’ll also introduce a totally new song and arena with this update, so keep your eyes open for more info on that

  • Accessibility improvements. One goal for us during Early Access is to continuously improve accessibility. We’ve gotten some feedback from you and we’ll be taking our first step on improving this.

  • Of course, plenty of bug fixes and balance adjustments

And this is just all the stuff coming in the short term! You can check out our roadmap here:

As we move into Summer, you’ll start hearing more about the next Idol and all the great new content coming in the leadup to their reveal.

It’s worth noting that our roadmap is intentionally flexible so that we have the ability to respond to what we see from our community. We are always looking at our bug reports, Discord, streams, etc to determine what are the most important things for us to address next. So please keep it coming! We appreciate all your support and can’t wait to keep making Dead as Disco better for you! <3
