Let's do a story time here.
I was working on my dreamy passionate Roguelike game for the last 6 months or so. On top of that, I've been doing short videos on Youtube, Instagram, and Tiktok + posting frequently on X, Thread, Mastodon, and Bluesky. It was exhausting.. And the worst part, it only gained 150-ish Wishlists.
One day, I just said F all of this, it ain't working. Let's make a short incremental game like last time, it did give me a little money to live with. If I had just spent that 6 months on it, I could get 2 or 3 games.
So, I started making Master Healer Kale. The plan was
Create a game as soon as possible
Send keys to content creators before Steam Next Fest
Enter Steam Next Fest in June
Release the game in July
That's it! I'm making this game in 35 days-ish. Using a LOT of assets and code from my previous games. I didn't do playtests (Well, I did give my wife a try. She knew how to heal and how to upgrade skills. That was it.), I didn't prepare a demo, I hardcoded all texts, and worked on the game for 12+ hours a day.
And here we are..
What's Next :
I am submitting a demo to Steam, it's currently under review. Don't know if people will like it, because the early game was really slow and repetitive.
I want to add MORE nodes to the skill tree. There are some ideas that were scrapped, because the tree is already 200+ which I can describe as a "Massive Skill Tree" in the description.
I want to increase the effects in the dungeons for "Nightmare Mode".
I'm thinking of adding a Leaderboard. Like it contains the time when people finish the game (beat Demon King). But I don't know.. I think most of the people that get into this game don't want to min-max things too much.
The new updates will be available really close to launch. So YOU get to experience it first, without seeing any content creator do it first.
Prices will be either $3.99 or $4.99. My business brain said $4.99 is better, but my developer brain said $3.99 is good enough. Let the fight begin!
The release date will be somewhere around 3 - 19 July. I kinda wanna avoid the Steam Summer Sale. But if it gets tons more wishlists.. Maybee..
