Touhou: the Unreachable Oneiroborder · published

Long time no see! This is the Unreachable Oneiroborder development team. Thank you all for your continued attention. Recently, many players have been asking about the development progress of the full version of Unreachable Oneiroborder. We fully understand everyone's eagerness to play the complete game. Please allow us to first offer our sincere apologies—for the past six months, we have been focusing primarily on iterating the full version content, so there has been limited progress information we could share publicly at this time. We ask for your understanding!
However—while developing the full version content, we also discovered many shortcomings in the current demo version. We devoted significant effort to readjusting the performance style and details of many danmaku patterns in the first three stages, and implemented numerous experience optimizations throughout the game. Currently, Unreachable Oneiroborder Demo Pre5 has been released—please update and try it out! The specific update contents are listed at the end~
Additionally, we need to update everyone on our development plans and current status, such as how much content has been created recently, what stage the game is at now; exactly how much content the full version will contain; when the full version will be released... and more.
Please allow me to shift to a slightly more conversational tone~
Um, first of all... the Unreachable Oneiroborder team was formed in 2018 by a group of students driven by shared interest. Most of the game content was created by team members in their spare time outside of studies. As time passed... nearly all of our core members have gradually entered working life, and we no longer have the same level of passion and energy to devote to this fan creation as we did in the past.
Moreover, our quality standards have become increasingly high, so the game has undergone many iterations over these 8 years. Take danmaku alone—each Boss has at least two complete rounds of danmaku iteration. In June 2025, we began the third round of danmaku iteration. However... this is because aside from danmaku design, other aspects had fallen too far behind—redesigning character portraits, significantly iterating and refining the game's story, optimizing various details throughout the game, and so on. The bulk of this work fell upon our lead producer, so our danmaku designer figured they couldn't stay idle and not contribute, thus beginning the third round of danmaku iteration. Other team members also take advantage of free time to discuss various opinions and continue optimizing progress.
Next, we'll answer some of your questions in Q&A format:
Q: How much content will the full version of Unreachable Oneiroborder include?
A: The full version will have 7 stages total, including the 3 stages already available in the demo. The progression will differ from traditional Touhou danmaku games. The full version will not include an Extra stage; instead, Stage 6 will feature branching routes with completely different content and styles.
Q: What is the approximate playtime of the full version of Unreachable Oneiroborder?
A: Playtime will vary depending on individual playstyles. The full version will feature four playable characters. For players focused on exploring all story endings for each character, we estimate an average of at least 10 hours of playtime. We also plan to add more game objectives in the full version (not limited to collecting all endings and clearing the existing four difficulty levels). We also encourage players to leverage powerful systems and their own ingenuity to gradually challenge higher difficulties. If the game wins your favor, playtime may increase significantly~ ❤
Q: What is the current development status of Unreachable Oneiroborder? How much is done?
A: Although as mentioned above, team members have limited time, development is still proceeding steadily and methodically. In fact, in the approximately 10 months from June 2025 to present, our danmaku designer has almost completely redesigned or refined about 70% of the game's danmaku. For stage sections, only Stage 5 redesign remains. Currently, work is progressing on Stage 5's background and danmaku redesign (of course, we can't show you this content yet~ ❤). And just this week, all character portraits were completed, and work is now underway on refining expression variations (again, not showing yet~ ❤). All music is also complete. Moving forward, the team will primarily focus on refining
game fonts, text adaptation, UI implementation, and various detail adjustments, while the danmaku designer will continue working on danmaku refinement and redesign.
Q: What other improvements will be made in the full version of Unreachable Oneiroborder?
A: There are still many parts of the demo that haven't been modified yet. Take the "Needle of Dreams and Reality" system, which unlocks in the second loop, as an example. In future optimizations, it will be adjusted to "select the run's inclination toward Dream side/Reality side/Balance before starting the game—that is, allowing players to choose their playstyle before the run begins." In our plans, we will also make significant buffs to the "Reality side," and the overall visual style of the entire "Needle of Dreams and Reality" system will be further optimized. As for game backgrounds, at the end of last year we planned to visually improve the backgrounds of Stage 1, Stage 3, and Stage 5. Currently, we are remaking the Stage 5 background. The adaptation and optimization for controller support is still in progress. The developer responsible for controller support hasn't had much spare time recently, so we ask for your understanding.
Q: When will the full version of Unreachable Oneiroborder actually be released?
A: Unreachable Oneiroborder is our team's first work, and it's very likely also our last :)
In our plans at the beginning of the year, we listed many possibilities, but plans often can't keep up with changes. At this stage, game development is not the primary job for our team members. Everyone's time and energy may be reduced due to various unexpected circumstances. Furthermore, we don't want Unreachable Oneiroborder to have any regrets. Therefore, our team's internal consensus is "to prioritize satisfying ourselves first." If we chose to release Unreachable Oneiroborder in an incomplete state, it would undoubtedly go against our original intention in making the game, and would be disrespectful to the game itself.
That said, in our early year plans, we hoped to complete all game content of Unreachable Oneiroborder in 2026, with sufficient time for testing, troubleshooting, and refinement. Because our team members have day jobs, we must ensure that as few problems as possible occur when the game
launches—otherwise, we would be irresponsible to the many players looking forward to the full version. We don't want to see players encounter bugs that seriously affect normal gameplay after the game's release. In summary... although the possibility of a 2026 full version release isn't high, the possibility of completing the entire game is very high.
Please bear with us, and look forward to the day we officially meet!
Finally, one more request—we hope Unreachable Oneiroborder can be a game that lets everyone experience the joy of Touhou danmaku games, but we currently don't have the energy or budget for promotion. If possible, please recommend Unreachable Oneiroborder to friends around you. Your support is our greatest motivation! ❤ Love you all ❤
