By completing sets of cards, you'll craft and level up your badge and earn rewards like emotes and backgrounds - Additionally, you can complete a set of rare foil cards to unlock a foil badge. You can then display either badge on your profile - Read more about Steam Trading Cards here. There are:
6 badges (5 normal, 1 foil)
5 emotes
3 backgrounds
You can alternatively obtain these rewards from the Points Shop.
