B.I.O.T.A. Dev Update #1 - Latest updates after the demo

Hey everyone!

After the last demo update, we wanted to let you know about how things are going with B.I.O.T.A.’s development. We also hope updates like this will become more frequent!

Let's dive into new features coming to B.I.O.T.A.

First off, the Training Cabin inside the HQ (previously a tutorial) has now become a new mini-game that will allow you to earn credits while mastering the game mechanics. The prize will be proportional to the time needed to finish the obstacle course. Satisfaction from beating your own high scores will be added fun here.

Another aspect that we’ve worked on is gem farming. We don’t want you to spend hours on a tedious grind for gems. Everyone needs credits for upgrades, so we want to speed up the process of earning them. In order to accomplish that, we’re introducing two types of gems: Large Gem worth 5 credits and Small Gem worth 2 credits.

Many of you asked for more agency in terms of settings, especially audio settings, so we’ve expanded the audio options menu. Players will be able to turn off the rumble controller and adjust the volume of SFX and music separately. Thank you all for feedback on this, and please keep letting us know about your ideas and suggestions after playing the demo.

We’re also thinking of new ways you could play the game and have fun, as we feel that the base mode has a lot of potential to branch out.

Firstly we plan to introduce the Arcade Time Attack mode, similar to the tutorial mini-game, but much bigger. You’ll have to complete a simulated path that runs through all 10 Frontier Horizon areas in the shortest time possible. Each death would additionally lower your final time. We can’t wait for you to try it and to hear your suggestions for other alternative modes in B.I.O.T.A.!

We’re also testing the Permadeath Mode in which every character who dies during the story is permanently eliminated. It’s still at an early stage of development, so stay tuned for more details.

To end this update on a slimy note, we’d like to mention a new type of obstacle...

B.I.O.T.A.'s mutants produce looooots of slime. In zone 6, you’ll have to run through layers of muck covering the floor and platforms. Step carefully, so you don’t slip into the pools of acid. You could say that now even the floor is trying to kill you. Welp, just B.I.O.T.A. things!

That’s all for this Dev Update. Let us know what you think about new features on the Steam forum, or our Retrovibe Discord.

Remember to follow B.I.O.T.A. here on Steam, wishlist the game, and tell your friends.

See you next time!
