Welcome, Farmers!
Today, we’re kicking off a series of dev logs that we’ll be posting regularly on our Steam page to keep you updated on the progress of our game. In this first entry, we want to introduce one of the core mechanics of Ancient Farmer—crop cultivation. Of course, we won’t be able to cover everything today, but we’ll go over the most important aspects.

As an ancient farmer, you’ll have to handle many farming-related tasks manually. The first step? Finding a suitable location to till the soil.

To do this, you need to find a flat piece of land and clear it of any obstacles, such as stones, sticks, and other debris.

Once the area is cleared, grab your hoe and start tilling! Farming isn’t just about manual labor—you’ll need the right tools to get the job done.

We’ll dive deeper into obtaining and crafting tools in a future entry. After tilling the soil, the next step is choosing the right seeds for planting. Acquiring seeds is another crucial aspect that we’ll cover in more detail later. Keep in mind that crop growth depends on the season - some plants can only grow during specific times of the year.

The Three Seasons of the Ancient Farmer

In Ancient Farmer, the year is divided into three distinct seasons:

  • 🌊 Akhet – The Flood Season
  • 🌱 Peret – The Growing Season
  • 🌾 Shemu – The Harvest Season

Each crop has its own seasonal preferences, so you’ll need to plan accordingly. Planting at the wrong time could lead to poor yields or crop failure. We’ll explore the in-game calendar and seasonal mechanics in an upcoming entry.

Taking Care of Your Crops

Once your crops are planted, it’s time to nurture them and ensure they grow properly. When you hover over a plant, a plant status panel will appear.

This panel provides essential information, including:

  • ✅ The plant’s current growth stage
  • ✅ Expected yield
  • ✅ Actions required to optimize growth (e.g., watering, fertilizing)

Be careful! Applying fertilizer at the wrong time can actually decrease your yield instead of boosting it. Watering your crops regularly is also essential for a healthy harvest.

Harvesting and Timing

Once a plant reaches full maturity, it’s time to harvest. The size of your yield depends on how well you cared for the plant and whether you fertilized it at the right times.

However, don’t wait too long! If you fail to harvest a plant in time, it will start to rot. Initially, the yield will decrease, and after a few growth cycles, the plant will wither completely.

Demo Version

In just a few weeks, we should release the demo version of the gam,e so keep your eye on the News section!

That’s All for Now!

That wraps up our first DevLog! This is just the beginning, so make sure to add the game to your wishlist and follow us on Steam to stay updated on future posts.

Em hotep, Farmers!
