A massive thank-you to everyone who’s been diving into Deck of Stabs! Your feedback has been incredible, and today’s patch brings a brand-new weapon, balance boosts, QoL goodies, and pesky bug fixes:

  • 🔨 New Weapon: Maul Hammer
    • A 2/5 Common Hammer, making it the most powerful common hammer, however, after using it your next attack costs +1 Energy
    • Use it wisely!

  • ⚔️ Skill Buffs
Hearty is by far the most popular skill pick at Level 3 (who doesn't want more Energy?!). But I do want all the skills to be viable options.

So I'm experimenting with giving Axeman and Swordmaster a small buff to make them more viable. This buff may get reverted if this ends up being too much power, but in the meantime, they should pack some extra punch!

Also, more skills are planned for future updates!

    • Axeman From +1 → +2 damage to all Axes
    • Swordmaster From +2 → +3 damage to all Swords

  • 🗡️ Weapon Buff: Broad Sword
Previously, the Broad Sword was just a worse version of the Long Sword. However, to make things more interesting it's gotten a buff to make it more competitive and perhaps better than the Long Sword in certain circumstances.

Hence, it's still a 1/3 weapon, but now deals +2 damage vs. Stunned enemies.

  • 🐺 Enemy & Encounter Tuning
As always, I'm watching enemy encounter statistics to look for enemies that may be unduly powerful. Here are a few tweaks as a result of recent playtesting.

    • Rat Wolves no longer inflict Wounds but have higher Health & Damage
    • Vicious Rat Wolves still wound, but damage down 6→5
    • Level 3 Blue Thief fight eased: now 2 Thieves + 2 Bandits

  • ☁️ Cloud Saves Incoming
Gameplay saves aren't ready just yet but I'm laying the groundwork. Volume settings should now persist via Steam cloud saving. Full progress saving arriving soon!
  • 📍 Map Legend Added
Realized this would be helpful for new players, was easy to add.
  • ✨ Minor Tweaks
Added a handful of other minor improvements. For instance, weapon and item cards now have a subtle background behind their main graphic (more art polish next updates), shopkeeper bubbles jiggle on click for clearer feedback, and updated Rat Wolf sprites
  • 🐞 Bug Fixes

    • Temporary effects no longer last past end of turn
    • Shop tooltips fixed to behave correctly
    • Damage that killed off armor was being counted twice, fixed
    • Cards stolen by Red Thief weren't being recovered if the Red Thief was the last enemy to die, fixed
    • Victory screen had a minor de-sync if the final kill was a poison kill, fixed

I’ll keep a close eye on play metrics and roll out more tweaks as needed. Thanks again for all your support—you’re making Deck of Stabs sharper than ever! 🗡️

Happy stabbing!
