Dear Abbots and Abbesses,

We are excited to announce that the second public playtest for Monastery: Ora et Labora is almost here!
Starting today, you can request access directly on our Steam page using the green “Request Access” button. Access will be granted in one week, so make sure to sign up early!

Changes

Gameplay & Systems

  • Reworked the Monastic Rule.

  • Reworked Monks Need.

  • Reworked the Prayer System.

  • Added Taxes.

  • Reworked field placement mechanics.

  • Improved task priority behaviour.

  • Now monks eat bread.

  • Improved storage management.

  • Added automated dirt cleaning.

  • You can now skip to the next day without viewing the daily report panel.

  • The number of worshippers is now limited according to the Monastery’s Progression.

New Content

  • Added stained-glass windows, colored windows.

  • Windows now let more natural light enter the monastery.

  • Added new worshipper models (male, female).

  • Added new decorations.

  • Added new floors.

UI & UX

  • Added key mapping options to the settings menu.

  • Added tabs to the object information panel.

  • Improved Object Placement UI.

  • General UI improvements.

  • Added icons to objectives and texts.

Audio

  • Added a new sound effect when building walls.

Localization

  • Added automatic localization for French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, and Simplified Chinese.

Other

  • Numerous bug fixes and optimizations.

Playtest Info

🛠️ How to Join the Playtest

  1. Head over to our steam page

  2. Click the “Request Access” button under the Playtest section.

  3. Wait until we approve access (in about a week).

  4. Once approved, you’ll be able to download and play the test build!

Q: When will the playtest start?

A: You can request access now. Access will be granted in one week.

Q: How long will the playtest last?

A: We’ll keep it open for a minimum of two weeks.

Q: Is progress saved?

A: Progress will not carry over to the final release, but you’re free to play as much as you like during the test.

Q: What languages are available in the playtest?

A: The game is available in English, Italian but we added automatic translation for French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, and Simplified Chinese.

Q: Can I stream or make a video based on this build?

A: Of course, you are free to stream or make videos about the game, but please mention that it is a playtest version and still a work in progress. Feel free to tag us on social media, we would be happy to share your work!

Q: Is this playtest build representative of the final version?

A: This playtest is an early look at Monastery: Ora et Labora. While it already contains the core gameplay, it’s not fully representative of the final game. Some features, balance, and content will evolve as we continue development. One of the main goals of this playtest is to gather your feedback, so your experience and suggestions can directly help shape the final version.

Q: Will there be controller support?

A: Currently, the playtest supports keyboard and mouse only. Controller support may be added later.
