Hello, community!

It's been quite a journey since Puck was released on Steam. We've had a lot of issues, bugs and mishaps, but we've also reached a peak of 1337 (cool, I know) players and we're also at 80% positive review rate on this platform!

Thank you everyone for playing and participating, I really appreciate it.

I'm not being nearly as active as I should be here on Steam, but if you're interested, we have a very active and friendly Discord community where you can find out more about the game.

Here's some of the more notable changes in the last few updates:

  • Introduced separate control button for sharp stopping: ALT
  • Stick to barrier collisions will now counteract each other with more force
  • Added goal crease markers to help goalies orient themselves
  • Stick pivot point moved closer to player's body
  • Puck now has less friction and more weight
  • Bounciness is now equal across all parts of the board
  • Base turn speed of both Skater and Goalie have been increased
  • Friction of the Skater during sliding has been reduced
  • Turn speed of both Skater and Goalie while sliding has been increased
  • Increased stability of Skater and Goalie while sliding
  • Stamina drain for 180s decreased to 1/8th of the stamina bar
  • Stamina drain for jumping decreased to 1/8th of the stamina bar
  • VOIP is now enabled as a toggle feature for community servers! (server owners please see README.txt for changes to launch arguments)
  • Backend server migrated fully to a different host with much more performant hardware
  • Completely replaced ICMP pinging with separate UDP sockets for servers
  • Added /debug chat command which enabled developer tools on the main menu
  • Refactored the whole player customization system which now allows you to:
    • Set your player's visor for each team and role separately
    • Set your player's stick blade tape and handle tape for each team and role separately
    • Set your player's stick skin for each team and role separately
    • Set your player's jersey for each team and role separately

  • Added microtransaction system which integrates with Steam
  • Raised required CPU power for 10 player servers
  • Servers will now terminate themselves instantly after reaching a player count of 0
  • Servers will stay online for 1 minute after launching before terminating
  • Backend service will reject connections who fail to authenticate with Steam
  • Backend service will reject duplicate connections originating from the same Steam ID
  • Added Linux server build of Puck (available under puck_server in the game's install folder)
  • Removed input randomizer developer tool from release build
  • Fixed an issue where opening the game would sometimes lead to Steam authentication error
  • Fixed an issue where intermission phase change would cause the game to freeze for long periods of time
  • Fixed several memory leaks for servers
  • Fixed an issue where deployed servers would not terminate themselves if unable to connect to backend
  • Reduced the freezing that occurs when a replay is started (full fix requires more development time)
  • Updated Unity to latest version (6000.0.33f1)

Hope you enjoy this update and have fun!
